I did more on 4K with 2 layers of tape (emphasis/pressure on the toe and heel). It looks good (to me). Under high magnification:

Yes, does look much better. You are getting the X stroke down, and now honing all the way to the edge, it can take some time to get it, and even harder to describe. Good work.

Move up and see if the edge holds.

Rather than using a dedicated tile, you also can put lapping film on top of any hone, since they already should be flat.

A cautionary note...
The toe is now square enough to cause you a serious cut.
I have a scar on my cheek that reminds me of the possible consequences of a sharp toe.

If you think that one is bad, then you definitely should avoid spike points!

Yeah, it bit me once, very early on in my shaving experience. I've learned to be careful of the two square pointed razors I have.

My plan for now, is to see how the edge holds with the 8k Norton, as I have been having some issues with this blade (maybe I've gotten to good steel). Once I get the glass plate ready, I'd like to try the films. I'll be something new to try.

Minor side track...

I didn't have enough time tonight to hone on the 8K, so I decided to just lap my Norton 8k stone to prepare for honing, and try to lap one of the glass tiles that I got to use for film. I spent about 25 minutes with my Dia-Sharp 325 on the glass tile, going over the entire length, using water. Here is a shot of the glass tile:



It's not quite getting to the edge yet on each side, and it it's hitting the last inch or so on each end (it was about 2", but eventually moved closer. This is with me going over the whole surface, front to back and side to side.

I take it I need to go further, at least to the edges on the sides?

No, that’s good. The flatter it is the better it will stick and the more material in contact with the edge.

That should work fine. But if you want is flat some 180 or 220 W&D on a cookie sheet and on the floor will get it flat in a short time. Or some loose silicone Oxide grit.
