I bet either the weight or she had to scrub it to keep it "clean".

You know it is quite tragic that those who grew up knowing about and using cast iron get older and the hand strength leaves and they are forced to resort to the inferior cooking pots and pans.

I'd have to guess it was more the up keep to keep it in cooking order. I might have to buy her a dutch oven for Christmas lol

I'll not listen to your negative banter as It will be a frosty day at Satan's before I give up using mine. That is all...........

No negetive 'banter' spoken here; just the facts of life and aging. Benz (who's mother and grandmother used cast iron extensively) has shared how when his elderly mother would want to make waffles in the vintage cast iron waffle maker, she would pour the batter in and then he was the one to turn it over as she didn't have the strength to do so anymore.

Enjoy the strength that God has given you as Satan has a huge deep freezer for those who don't think they will ever lose that strength.

My Dad who is 91 years old still says he will use his cast pans but in reality he can't. Haven't seen a cast skillet on his stove for years. I even tried to buy them from him but no, still says he has plans on using them.

You can't keep a Good Man Down!

I'd like to not only meet your dad, but shake his hand and spend some time listening to him tell about his life.
