Thanked: 13245many recipes say the names are interchangeable
I have also heard that the difference is the Cornmeal
Johnnycakes use cornmeal and Hoe cakes don't or use much less
IDK what the real answer is but I am going to try without for the first time since I have had Johnny Cakes with Corn Meal

Non Stir Fry Wok Treats
Hey Guys,
While a Wok is almost essential for stir it's very useful for making a certain treat as well.
Hmmm What could be inside???
I'll say this: I bet that back in the day my mother wished she could make this much at a time since there were 4 of us kids and my dad to fix for. Her solution was to get started and have some keeping warm in the oven while she made more.
More of What???
More of this!!
That's a 14" flat bottom wok made by the now defunct Atlas Metal Spinning of S. San Francisco that I've had for 35+ years. Please note the custom made handle that my friend Andrew made for me out of African Blackwood that included heart and sapwoods. I'm eternally in his debt.
Now off to eat some of that popcorn! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Nice idea, Cuda!
I think people have forgotten that popcorn has been made for a long time without a microwave oven.

I can't STAND microwave popcorn! Blaauuwww. In fact when my son's girlfriend was living with us and she brought home the microwave crap I told her Not In My House! My son knew how to make it the right way and I had him teach her. I doubt that now that they are out on their own that traditionally prepared popcorn is made.
Mom had one of those electric poppers that was a self contained unit and it probably made about 1/2 of what I can make in my wok. Us gut hungry little basterds could eat it faster than mom could pop it and of course my dad could eat his share. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

My friend I figured that you were using a term that meant the same as what I thought it did. And I was correct!

Popcorn and a light dusting of chilly pepper mixed with very fine salt is the best.
