It's not mine but there is a bottle of 18 y/o in the house. It's very nice. Not as harsh as the younger expressions. Much more complex. Lots of peat and smoke.

I'm trying to keep costs low. Thinking about an Ardbeg 10y/o this month. Or if there's anything else around £35 on a good offer at the supermarket...

Bowmore 15 is also very good. It does not come on as strong as the Ardbeg, but it has a very VERY pleasing taste. :-)
It is definitely more expensive than the Ardbeg. Well worth the money though.

Quarter Cask is bottled at a higher proof (96) than 10 year (80), so there's less dilution.

One of these days I will have to try cask strength.

I haven't tried Bowmore 12 or Auchentoshan American Oak but I would avoid Glenlivet altogether. I have a bottle of Glenlivet 12 that I don't think I'll ever get rid of. It is too dry, too salty, and it tastes more like home distilled bad liquor than whisky. Just my two cents...

If all you ever had from Glenlivet was 12, then it is not a fair assessment of the brand. 12 is made for the masses. A single that tastes like a blended.

I still don't like Glen 18, just not my style, but I respect it is a very good Scotch.

Nothing wrong with a salty whisky, within reason. Having said that I haven't tried Glenlivet yet.

I am a fan of Old Pulteney, a nice bit of fruit and a hint of salt finish. Good Drink. 12 Year Old Single Malt ? Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky
