It must be going on for 10 years that cartridge blades were taken off the shelves over here - instead you pick up an illustration and take it to the check out where someone delivers the pack to you.

That is almost like the way you had to buy booze in Ontario years ago. Fill in a chit with a pencil, take it to the counter and the nice man would get you your preferred poison.

They say in one pass, you get the same shave.. i say BS, there is always some grit left over on your face when your done with one. Where as, only 2 or 3 passes with my straight and im baby but smooth

Im also an environmentally conscience guy, and couldnt stand the thought of throwing away all that metal and plastic every week. It all goes and sits in a landfill forever, So i now use a straight
I do have a DE if i need it, but i really prefer this straight over it.
It took a boring chore, and made it a fun way to start the day
Yes, that's the reason I started the thread, it had been a long time since I bought carts, even then they were ridiculously priced, when I got them the other day, they were $26.72 for four!!

edited to add: Read lots of reviews, seems blades are a personal choice, I have no experience, what are opinions on the Lord Blades?

Go back in the thread, you can see the stand-by razor I just got....

To the OP; I know I live in an expencive country, but last week I was in store with a friend of mine and I happened to peruse the shaving section. The most expencive 5-pack I saw was equalling 47,83 USD..

Those straight razors don't feel so expencive anymore

Not to worry, I save all the slights and insults in a little file, right next to the section marked "revenge by..."

Astra are good blades and reasonably cheap on line. You can get sample packs too, which is a good way to try quite a few different ones. Derby are one of the worst i have used, but others like them.

When I tried a shavette, purchased one of those Parker's, I know there is no comparison to the nice Shavette's like the Feathers etc..., but I knew it was just a cheap piece of metal, but it worked better than expected, certainly gave a harsh and close shave, and the blades that came with it were Derby's (which I used only one, shaved twice with it), and two Lord Blades.

Have you tried Lord Platinum blades?

No, but I have heard they are good. Not often i use DE blades anymore unless i have picked up a nice razor and want to give it a try.

With a safety razor I get the best shaves from a schick injector and you only have one choice of blades: Schick about a buck (USD) on line. My GEM Junior which I like you have 2 choices of blades stainless or carbon steel. Both are Good but you get a few more shaves from the stainless. You can get SE blades from Korea, but they are about like hardware store scraper blades don't get them! I like Personnas or Wilkinsons in my Gillette Tech. I always get cuts with a Derby blade.

Phrank, I don't know if you have Sally Beauty supply in Canada, but they have Personnas for a reasonable price.

    Good Luck
