SOTD
Dear Gents,
No Shave Of The Day for me today. Still very clean from yesterday's session with the Raptor.
Instead, I thought it would be nice to share my day with you in three alternative SOTD's.
1. Scarification of the day.
Scarification you say? What on earth is that? Well, it turns out that is the official term for removing gunk from your lawn.
You take a special rake (if you're a man) and run that rake across the lawn in horizontal strokes and after that in vertical strokes. My particular lawn, or "grassy knoll" is about 104 m2, which is about 113 square yards for you US folks. Raking that by hand is a fine job especially when the sun's out. So that was garden work. You can of course rent a machine to do this hard work for you, but that makes the whole process "clinical". I chose to do it by hand and got some good physical labour out of it aside from getting the chance to ponder over life in general and mine in particular. Tough physical jobs are good for that.
2. Smoke of the day.
Having finished the whole thing I went to the box that once held 25 fine Montechristo cigars, but there's less of them now. Picked me a fine one and had a glass of good old Four Roses to go with it. (on a Monday) Staring at my job-well-done I enjoyed the sight of a lawn free from moss and hundreds of thousands grass leaves thanking me for letting them breathe again and receive light, sun and water. It was overwhelming. Oh and I saw the first two swifts in the sky! That means that spring has really started now.
3. Steak of the day.
Went to the butchers and got myself a good size portion of Beef Tenderloin as a reward for my tough effort. (That's "eye fillet" for you Ozzies and "filet" fuer unsure Deutsche freunde et mes amis Francaises) Scarifying a lawn by hand like that isn't an easy task and considering I'm pushing 44 later this year, it meant that my body is aching now that I type these words and I realise I have muscles in places I never thought they existed... The steak was accompanied by the newest batch of Duvel Tripel Hop 2013 and I must say, it's a winner again. What a taste! Brother Hog will be jealous.
I guess the Boomtown Rats didn't really ever have a Monday like this.
So, all in all a Monday well spent and I'm a happy and tired cowboy, that's now going to get some shut-eyes.
Nice talking to you folks!
Herman
To anticipate on the questions that will arise from this picture:
1. Yes, I ALWAYS eat my steak with a chef's knife (Wusthof Dreizack Culinar)
2. No, I never shaved with this chef's knife. Only Michiel from Belgium shaves with chef's knives.
3. The veggies are called "Bimi", sometimes called Broccolini.
4. Yes, that is a special edition Duvel glass.
5. No, Bob Geldof is not hiding in the bushes.

I've been an avid Duvel drinker for 34 years and for me personally it's my favorite beer of all times. I used to live 10 minutes drive from the brewery in Moortgat. Needless to say I spend many moments at that place drinking Duvel straight from the source and either walking, hitchhiking or taking a cab home. That's not even taking in account the countless bar/pub moments. I still favor the original recipe after all these years but still need to try the Tripel Hop 2013.
