It liiks like a black and if it is it was ch- ch- ch- cheap. Smith's XAB 4. I can see the "4" means 4 inch but I can't seem to find any kind of list of their product numbers. Anybody have one or know where there is one?

So I wrote to Smith's and today received a reply from a customer service rep. This is what she said.

XAB4 stands for xtra fine Arkansas Bench Stone 4”.
It’s a stone to be used at the end of the sharpening process to put a finishing edge on your blade. Its been discontinued from our line about 30 years.

Nice of her to take the time to send that information and also nice to find it is in fact a black. Can't wait to get it in.

I am always wanting more Swiss files.. This time i got ahold of these Die Sinker files from the 50's in perfect condition.
I need to figure out proper storage though. Open air they rust, covered in oil/wax, they attract dust.. Maybe a leather razor roll type creation?

That photo evokes a memory of Steve Martin singing “I am a dentist” in Little Shop of Horrors.

How about storing them in a plastic box with a desiccant? There are all kinds of anti-rust sprays as well.

They would be good to use on some awful person's teeth.

I need them in the workshop ready to go. I think a roll is the way to go maybe a jean roll would be better than leather.. It is a lot of hand sewing though..
They should be separate yet together and held softly
    Cheers

A VCI puck in you storage box should be what you are looking for, or a VCI pad in the box.

    Is it Safe??????

The fun starts at about 3 minutes in. Right before he starts his exam I always ask my dentist---Is it safe? Yes he's seen the movie.

One scale is cracked, probably because of this big bow.
Needs some work but not too much really. It cleaned up pretty well with a quick clean using the Outback method

The hone wear shows up more after some buffing with the 3M Marine. Of course it is coming apart for a full restore but the quick clean makes me really optimistic.
