Finally traversed from one side of the Bouldering club to the other after many attempts. Crappy photo but I got all the way to the floor on the LH side from the 'cave' area on the RH side starting at the roof.

Great endurance stuff with some strength in there too.

Got back into the gym today, just did 3.8km of intervals on the treadmill and a few 1/2 dips to ease myself back into it.

Does a bit! It's concrete sprayed on a framework in an industrial shed. Very humble in comparison to what they have overseas, but this is little tiny South Australia...

A lot of climbing gyms are made of plywood, but the concrete allows for more friction similar to rock; so you can 'smear' the wall with your climbing shoes and get purchase.

I absolutely love climbing; sometimes at night I lie awake worrying about getting old and not being able to climb anymore.
For most of my life I 'did weights' (and the normal army training for ten years) and used to have the same concerns (i.e., if I were on a desert island, how would I manufacture a barbell and dumbells?) but now climbing has completely taken over.

I see climbing as an almost complete body workout; all functional movements; nothing non-functional. It strengthens your body from the very very tips of your fingers to the very very tips of your toes and you have the callouses and skin you idly pick off and throw away while waiting at the bus stop to prove it.

You pinch yourself several times a day to ascertain how much 'baggage you're carrying'.

You progress past the '5.5 kilos plus 5.5 kilos plus the bar equals 26 klilos' level and try and analyse angles and forces while fantasizing about climbing buildings, freeway cuttings and random cliff faces as you drive or walk past them.

At about one in two family gatherings you'll challenge your sons to door frame pullups.

You see pushups simply as a means to warming up the shoulders pre-climbing and all aerobic activity serves the simple purpose of eliminating 'baggage'.

You talk to other climbers about problems in the most intricate, insular language and are able to describe movements like describing the choreography in Swan Lake in a way that's specific, constrained and secretive.

When people ask you on Monday what you did on the weekend you know they know they already know it's climbing.

Out on the bike again. Just an easy 20km ride, but I pushed it hard all the way and hit a top speed of 46kph along a straight section. A good aerobic workout if nothing else.

Today's workout was a 3 mile mountain bike ride on a local horse trail. Rough trail conditions and 7 steep hills had me pushing my single speed a lot. Right now I'm laying on the couch icing my knee., good times.

Two hours of bouldering on Saturday mainly traversing, then Sunday a bike ride. I tried to beat my personal best of 44:40 but ended up coming in at 45:57!

I day off work today so I'm off outdoor bouldering at The Bachelor Pad...
