So what is up with the mantles I see. Is that something which you add-on?
I suppose that will make them brighter?

Tom, I'm still trying to learn the proper terminology with these Aladdin Lamps. You might be referring to the 'Shades'?

With that said, the 'Mantles' are what makes the difference between the Aladdin Lamps and regular flat wick lamps. In a way I suppose they were the forerunners of the Coleman Gas Lanterns.

Mantles are what makes them illuminate bright white and you need them. You have to be careful as they are very fragile especially after you do a burn off. All it takes is one insect to drop down your chimney and your mantle is poof. I like to keep a good half dozen or so in my stash. Take your chimney off and look at the top of the gallery and you will see notches where your Lox-On mantle will attach when you get close to being done with your restoration. Since I don't have a digital camera, maybe Roy can post pics of where the mantle goes.

Yes, you need to buy not one but at least two mantles. Buy a new wick as well.

I see the 4 little ears where the mantle goes-on.
Like a mantle on a Coleman lantern!

I have no idea what they are made of Rez. They went to a new material that doesn't have radioactive thorium. Personally I love the old radioactive mantles and have a secret stash of them. After all these years with my Aladdins I'm not dead from it yet.
