Better you than me, Dave. My kids have kids of there own. Now i just laugh at them when they complain about never having anything nice without it getting lost or broken.

Im up at the moment but will be going back to bed in a couple hours, hopfully. So i can be up all night. Starting to wish i had some of that Speed i used to take when i was young and dumb, to help get thru this first night. Ha.

Hope those of you with new jobs are doing well and Jerry I hope the night shift works out well for you. Will pray for guys.
My wife and I are hoping to have our own small business started within the next year. Hopefully that will work out well and I can stop working $10/hr retail. That isn't putting a dent in the student loans. Then we will have more free time and be able to get a home of our own.

I think I posted a pic of this blade and scales before. I got the broken blade unpinned. Here is what it would look like if I transplant the scales. Lucked out and found the blade in the wild about 3-4 years ago and the scales last year.

I want to make a new set of scales for this razor, but I'm thinking of fixing up these scales for it in the mean time. They are a hair narrower than the scales that originally went on the blade.
    What do you guys think??

I'm totally stoked on the seamless, invisible, repair. The Big Oak is the shizzle, for black horn repair.

It does look amazing. The time, patience, and attention to detail show.
This has me wondering if if a dark brown wood dust would work on scales that aren't black. I want to do a similar repair, but I'm not sure about how to best match the original color. Whatever I use as a binder in the glue will have to be sanded/ground by hand since I don't have anything I can use lying around.

Looks good. I find part of the challenge with translucent material is the inside has to be as good as the outside or it will show through. The third pin looks very nicely done.

Agree 100% rez. Thats why i tend to stay away from transparent. Razor work can get pretty dirty (check out my garage sometime) and even just a fingerprint on the inside can be trouble to erase.

slightly polished and ready to go. Actually, I tried to clean it better but I did it.
Is it possible to find out when it was done?

RENALDO.US - Gillette Razor and Blade Dating and Feature Information

Looks like a travel razor with the short handle. You can try to look it up in this site. Ut its easy to change handles and top plates. So if its still the original parts, look it up by the diamond logo on the top cap, the short handle and be8ng a closed comb. Also the way the top cap amd base plate come together. Tabs and such. Its on an old style. More the new style. So guessing id say around 1930's?
