The 3 piece tech was made from 1938 to 1979.
I don't know how interchangeable the parts are.

In the last 10 years we've only experienced 3 electrical power outages and all have been during the winter. We get wind storms and some are real doozies. However we also get Ice Storms that are real bad.
I've survived by using my Coleman gas lantern and my Coleman propane 2 burner stove. The power company does a really fantastic job getting the electric back on and I'm not say that because my mother used to work in the local office. Back in '68 there was one hell of a freezing rain storm. The crews from all over came to help. The power had been out for quite awhile and I walked down to the office to say hi to mom (the office ran off of a generator). The lineman were asleep on the floor behind the counter------they had been up for 3 days without sleep.
Anyway thanks to my friend and 'enabler' Joel (Benz) I am now in possession of a vintage Aladdin Lamp that I'll be restoring so I can enjoy it anytime I wish OR during a power outage. Here's some beginning pics;

A little progress--slow but sure.
Thanks for looking. : I'll post more as I make progress.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 4827That is a nice example Roy. I used to. Have those when I lived off grid in the early 80’s, you know before it was trendy. I believer there is a mantle that sits above the round wick. They cast as much light as a 100 watt light I think.

Thanks Shaun,
Yes I'm well aware of where the mantel will go once I get it finished. Joel tells me that back in the day you could get different mantels/some were rated at 40 watt and the other was 60 watt. But they contained an element that was radioactive and are rarely found these days but the Aladdin's still put out a lot of light. In fact he tells me that for Shites and Giggles he used one of his Aladdins to light up his kitchen while he cooked his breakfast on some of those vintage cast iron pans of his.
He's also been tutoring me in the proper terminology concerning the parts. Such as the base that holds the kerosene is called a 'font'. hehehe kind of like a newbie calling scales 'handles'.
I'm slowly learning and it's been fun! I can't wait to 'char' my first wick. And then get ready to light the lamp. That is after 'burning the mantel'.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 4827Having lived off grid for a few years I have had a variety of lamps and light sources and as far as I am concerned the Aladdin’s were the best of them. The Coleman’s gave off a lot of light but required regular pumping and the propane lights did not seem to carry far. I am sure I still have a bunch of that stuff in my closet in the hoarders corner. Some things are good to keep for when we get long power outages and crazy storms.

Was digging thru the tadoo box last night to see what I could start on next. Came across a razor box with a razor n scales all ready to be put together, (must a forgot all about it). So I cut a couple nickle/ silver pins and put it together with collars from Mr. Kenny. Sorry, no before pics, it was a quick assembly.
To the hones, tonight.Mike
