Thread: What are you working on?

I feel like I'm bringing a Thread back from the dead!
I got this Wm. Temporal Razor from Tom for Movember. It had some seriously warped scales plus needed a little cleaning as some rust was starting in the pivot area.
I removed the pivot pin and saved the collars. Then straightened the scales with a little help from a heat lamp, Cleaned the blade up and the scales. Put a little neatfoot oil on the scales and went to repin when...
I found the holes no longer lined up in the scales. I had to drill them oblong in two different directions just a pinch to get the pin to be straight. Repinned with the original collars adding washers inside the pivot.
Now it's ready for some time on the hones. I see I left an oily fingerprint on the tip of the blade.
I spent today getting three sets of scales straightened with the heat lamp and a frown taken out of another blade. Now my to-do drawer is just full of honing to do. No fixing left. Don't know if I will be honing tonight but I got the work part of it all done.
This is a short razor and made that way. Kinda cool. I'd call it a 9/16 Near wedge or 1/4 hollow at the most. A nice little Sheffield to add to my collection. It's just Sharpening, right?

I was diggin thru the old tadoo drawer the other day, looking for what..I can't remember, I came across what I thought, was a set of scales I'd put back for repair.
Wrapped in a thin sheet of foam, I couldn't tell for sure. After unwrapping it I discovered a large blade inside.
Sorry, I got no before pics.!
I started tinkering with it, unpinned it from the cheap, oversized, plastic scales, cleaned the rust from the pivot, cleaned the blade with 3M , then back again with Flitz.
I noticed there was a substantial crack running up the blade, along the stabilizer. Damn!...wished I would have taken before pics.
I believe it was done on the buffer, after it was reground. Dunno..? The edge was ground flat, like to remove a frown, but never reshaped too the spine, so I reshaped the heel n toe, removing a substantial amount from each end, and in process removed a good part of the crack, and moved it off the cutting, edge. I was happy to be able to keep it at a heavy 7/8ths. at the end of honing it. I imagine it was a 8/8, in the beginning.
Then it was...I wonder what I've got for scales that might fit this thing. Rez...!!! The other set of carved scales he sent me..!!! Oh god....please make it fit. I'd already drilled them for another blade, but the blade wouldn't sit right in the scales when trying to close, so that mission was aborted.
I already had a wedge made for the other blade that didn't work , so I mocked it up. Fits perfect.! albeit some shimming for the warped spine and tang.
I know I got it from one of our members here, just don't remember who. But thank you, and thanks to Rez/Shaun for the scales. I've been waiting a long time, to use that last set, but something nice had to go in them, IMHO.
So...here it is.!
A 7/8ths. Wm. Jackson.
Sheaf island works & Co.
Sheffield.
Brass pins n collars. Brass lined, opaque plastic wedge
Hand carved, bone scales by our own...Rezdog.!
Pic of crack, after repair.

I was hoping this old thread would spring back to life.
I’m happy to see action here for sure. I need to clean off my workbench.

Thanked: 315Unfortunately I can't rescale yet, but I thought I should remove some scales that appear to be gassing off. Duck is looking suspicious, but I hate to tear it a apart too.
Would love to transfer the bolsters to clear acrylic someday. Actually, it would be nice to do that to all the Ducks before they go bad.

That's a shame, Josh. So typical of the DD's, they never stay like new..
