This makes sense now. I thought that those blanks were going to make some very short and fat handles.

Both pieces are on the bigger size, so I may need to trim some length off the Cocobolo to keep the proportion right. It will be getting a 30mm knot, so it will be a big handle as it is.

At some point I am going to get a brush made from antler and horn I have at my place. So I am waiting to see how much you like the antler.

Ha. Sure rips the tips off 100 grit paper in a hurry. Now you're making me think I should have got those carbide tipped tools. That being said, can't be any worse than Trustone.

Horn I know is tricky to turn depending on how the grain is aligned. It tends to chip along the length of the grain while turning. You need to be very careful with it.

Never tried to turn horn but I bet it does run like Kevlar if the tool grabs.
I'm such an advocate of carbide turning tools now as I sojourn into composite materials. I think the classic gouges I have will last me the rest of my hobby life since I use them so seldom.

I tried something new today- g10 liners! The bone scales on this Joseph Rodgers where cracked in several places so I figured the best solution was to add some support I left the patina on the blade- it was a nice even grey and looked nice IMO.

Awesome handle HarryWally. Looks very much like the Whaler brushes from Black Ship Grooming. I wondered how they got such a cool look to their handles. You have now enlightened me. I've never got into lathe work so it is all foreign to me

Nice one Ernie. I am a fan of the G-10 liner on delicate scales, I have done a couple and it has gone fairly well. With that beautiful even grey patina I would expect that unless you had to why would you change it. It takes a lot of loving care and time to get a patina like that. I have gotten some not bad effect with creating patins, but it never looks quite as nice as the natural stuff.
