Thanked: 119Some more progression, preliminary shape (if it keeps raining like this, I think I can finish a complete 7 days set by the end of the month)
This is the razor I intend to have the scales made for. French made, 1/4 hollow, the stamp is partially gone - Dumo(nie?) a Civray ?. For the moment it has my first attempt of carved scales

Thanked: 4206Beautiful works this weekend gents.
Tuzi, great find. And terrific recovery on a classic axe.
And those carved scales are looking time accurate and flow very nicely.
Add the shield, bam a French working blade ready to return to rotation!
Great hand skills at work.

a hamburger's better than nothing
Sometimes I read posts where people talk about how they've got an amazing razor, "Why, nothing's better than my 8/8 W&B FBU!" they say. Or, "Nothing's better than my NOS Filarmonica Novodur!"
But do I get jealous? Not anymore I don't. Because, I think all reasonable people agree that a hamburger's better than nothing, right?
I got this on Ebay, and honed it up this morning. It's about 13/16" and shaves really nicely, actually. Took a great edge and has really nice heft and balance.
(It would originally have said "The Hamburg Ring" but it's cute how it ended up over time.)

Great work fellas.
Very excellent, as a fact.
Myself...not much.
Cut some scale blanks of bubbinga for the Packwood Saturday eve, to only find they had warped over night. So I moistened them with water and clamped them. We'll get to them on the morrow. So to break the boredom I'm watching a movie, and honing up some kitchen knives.
And burning some dogs on the grill.

I have taken to rolling some Angus Ball Parks in the Sunday-morning bacon-grease.
Stack the buns around the cast-iron pan. Toasty!
Wolf-brand hot dog chili.
They ain't done till they are almost black! Chopped onions and shredded cheese. Mustard!
Ruffles!
Crunchy!

The back-half of the scales is done. Lightly misted with clear from a few feet out.
Gonna be a funky razzer!
