I built it with a bigger carrier in mind so it should be able to hold a 15watt laser head, when the time comes. Re-etches should be possible in black, or maybe the mask removal prior to gold dipping..
Sitting in front of a computer screen running code isn't as immediately satisfying as turning on the lathe by hand, that's for certain.. Hehe. My ass gets sore.

    Default Bakelite and epoxy...

So... the epoxy on that bakelite didn't come out beautiful -- it had a couple of voids in it; but I surely thought it was holding. Here it is when I slopped it on to fill the void.

And here it is after shaping -- you can see it's ugly, but I thought it was holding.

And here it is after peening nice and tight, and opening up to check the fit:

So Tom, all I've managed to do is confirm what you already knew and said: hard to find anything that will bond to bakelite!

If you PM me your address I will mail it out to you Monday...

Pity about your repair. Bakelite is a bear no doubt, specially on the pivot end. It can be done. Under supports such as toothpicks, shims and rougher mating surfaces, as well as stronger epoxies all are options.
Tom's always a safe bet too!
    Good luck!

My mom was the one to be afraid of. My father was the quiet one. It was rare to hear him say Darn and I only heard a full blown Damn 3X (that was scary!)

Got the G.D. finished! Got rid of the scratches I didn't like and put a nice bevel on it too. Time to give it a try. Crossing my finger.Name: 20170326_165045.jpg

I looks better with those scratches removed. Let us know how the shave goes.
