The scales take about 2 hours to make from paper pattern to final polish. Not hard at all. If I don't have to fuss too much with the wedge and blade centering it takes about another 30 minutes to fit the wedge and pin the razor.

I worked on this one for about a month , an hour here n there after work.

The fact that its finished is testament to luck I think. One thing is for sure, that is I have learnt a lot. I must say I'm tired of learning

The blade had some deep pitting . Even so I shouldn't have gone below 400 grit because deep scratches are visible in the light.

Originally the scales I made were contoured only along the top side. As good as they looked on there own , they didn't look good once the blade was attached so I re shaped the bottom sides to match the top. Using Macassar Ebony which is not black but quite dark with a nice grain. Using Tru oil was a mistake because its quite a dark oil , where as a lighter oil would have been better imo.

The original wedge I made was aluminium lined with copper. Which looked stupid really, maybe with black horn it would work ,so I swapped it out with a ebony/brass wedge.
During the dismantling process I managed to split one scale. Don't ask me how its holding together . Maybe due to the Devcon 2-ton epoxy , the best/strongest adhesive ive found .

I've had 2 shaves with this razor . The first shave left me with some wheepers. The second shave I had today , removing a 2 week beard . It just destroyed the beard and left me shaven perfectly with no wheepers.

Also the way I shaped the scales around the pivot pin makes for a lovely notch that wraps around my finger whilst holding . Nice

Yeah man, sometimes things happen. Don't let it ruin your day. I screwed my scales up on my Wosty shorty so I'm making some new ones. It's just one of those things. Even if you have to make some new scales, it will be okay. You might end up making some nicer scales!
    Happy Holidays my friend.

Cheers.. The wood was 4mm thick . After removing the saw marks they came down to 3mm each.

I made the same mistake with the wedge again.. I make them too big and then when they get placed in the scales n cut down the thinnest parts get cut off.

I'm well over this one. I've spent the last few weeks working on my chopper , the rosewood look amazing. I wanna finish it up but I think I might have to wait and order some steel for the lined wedge.
I've seriously gone off brass pins and lining .. Silver is where its at

Congrats to Tom for getting the featured Shave of the Day! It was a nice one. He had all the nice Christmas colors in it with a very nice razor!
I was late getting mine together plus I couldn't find the razor I wanted to use & all of my Christmas things to put in it.

    Well done Tom!

Yes Tom, nice pic and feature. Good choice.
Merry Christmas's were had by all I hope?
My first shave with the Krosskeys held for three days so I need not kiss the blade over the holiday.
    Might today though.
    Cheers gents!
