I understand Lou's point, but there is something else that needs syaing.
For some people, the USA is still the country where they can get a shot at a decent life because for whatever reason, in their homeland they have no future.
If I understand correctly from Lou and GW, the whole procedure for being allowed in legally takes at least several years and 20K dollar. And that is with one of you already being an American.
So how is a poor foreigner -hoping for a better life- going to get in?
That poem underneath the statue of liberty talks about welcoming the poor. They just have to hand over x0000$ which they don't have...
So a lot of those people already know that they are not going to get in because they don't have money. They are taking the only option left for them
By taking those immigrants out of illegality (is that a word?) they can be removed from criminal influence, they get to pay taxes and social security, and become Americans for all practical purposes. In the long run, I think this is a better solution.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

There is a fella from Honduras that lives where I work.
He was asking me how to say this word or that.
I am now teaching him English at night since there isn't much else to do at work.
He is legal. I asked. He was proud to tell me.
Now, I'm going to say this as nicely as I can.
Here is how I really feel about immigration.
.................................................. ........................
I have a good solution.
Lets move all these people to Belgium.
Belgium is a Socialist nation right?
Then there should be plenty of public assistance programs to suck the life out of.
Mexico could even be connected to Belgium by a big rainbow for the huddled masses to yearn across.
You would think Bruno, that being so near France that you might see the problem with unregulated immigration.
Hello?
Muslims?
The will of a people who don't even belong being imposed on the rightful inhabitants of the country??
Riots??
HELLO ?? McFLY???
Does any of this sound familiar to you?
I'm gonna write INS on the toe of my boot and go deport some people!!!
If someone wants to accuse me of trying to pick a fight with Bruno then fine.
Accuse me of being a racist too while you're at it.
I don't like Spanish people!
Care to know why before you pass judgment?
When I go out in the sun I get VERY brown.
I'm native, I just LOOK Spanish.
Everyone wants to talk to me in Spanish.
Do I speak Spanish? Sure. But you can't force me to.
So I tell them I don't speak Spanish.
You should see the looks I get for having the audacity to LOOK Spanish but not speak it.
HOW THEARE YOU GOING TO COME TO MY COUNTRY.......
I have an indian card as proof of ownership...(yes my purity has been diluted somewhat)....
... MY COUNTRY AND BE OFFENDED BECAUSE I DON'T SPEAK YOUR BULLSHITLANGUAGE AND YOUR
ASS SHOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE ANYWAY NOW GO THE
HOME !!!!!
Don't like what I said??
Go back and read the cartoon again consider which of us belongs here.

ok ok
ok so that might have been a little over the top by most peoples standards
but doesn't even scratch the surface of the contempt I feel for these people.
Believe me, I held back.
BTW, I resent the stereotypical depiction of Native Americans that the cartoon makes.

We have problem with unregulated immigration as well, as does almost every prosperous nation that is close to less prosperous nations.
My point is not that there should be unregulated immigration. My point was that the current rules / laws / procedures are part of the problem.
Btw, Belgium is only a socialist nation to Americans. Socialists are part of the government, but so are the conservaties, liberals and nationalists.
But we have affordable health care for all citizens, so we must be left wing hippie socialist nuts, right?
May I ask why this otherwise civil discussion is turning into a fight?
You could have made the same arguments in a way that would have been civil and non-insulting.
Hate and anger are not going to solve your problems.
Anyway, I'm out of here too.
EDIT: I just noticed I spent my 800th post on a stupid fight...Last edited by Bruno; 06-05-2007 at 07:41 AM.

Eye-opening video
I was going to refrain from posting, but I wanted you guys to see this video. It's from a group called Numbers USA and talks about, from a sheer numbers point of view, what the current immigration policy will do to America by mid-century.
I agree with what the speaker says at the beginning; a vast majority of Americans are pro-immigrant, but anti-mass immigration.
I can't help but think that if we can get congress in line and this from being so bureaucratic, there may not need to be nearly as much paperwork/time/money, and we could actually help people like Lou get his family here.
Anyway, for your viewing....

The video is at the bottom of the page and is called "Immigration by the Numbers"; it's almost 14 minutes long.
