Thanked: 4207This weekend I made a simple lil kaleidoscope for my boss’s daughter.
She suffers from Angelman syndrome, a rather obscure, but challenging condition that affects speech, movement, everything really.
I intentionally recessed both ends of the mahogany profile, to prevent her from poking her eye while using the device, it can rest on the outer eye socket actually. I made it oversized to be easy to grasp, and tapered it so it should roll back to her if she drops it. Finished in beeswax in case she naws on it.
It changes patterns as you rotate the kaleidoscope body. And as viewed from inside she will see this sort of effect.
My boss says she’s always happy, so I hope this simple facinator helps entertain her days and imagination,
Cheers gents. ."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

As some my know, I live in a duplex that has a single car garage. Since I don't have, want or need a SWMBO I'm free to work at my dining table but I do need the 'shop' that I have in the garage for things like using a table top belt sander, table saw and of course to maintain my Harley.
Several years ago the grocery company that I worked for decided to do a store wide 're-shelf' by taking out vintage heavy duty shelving and replacing it with modern light duty shelving. The old shelving was going to be just put in a dumpster and a local salvage yard was going to haul it off. In fact the salvage yard wasn't charging for the service as they felt that between the aluminum that was on all of the shelves and the steel itself would provide more than enough funds for them just to provide a big dumpster and haul the contents to their yard.
I saw this as a last time opportunity to have shelving for the Boars Nest Shop and I asked the person in charge if I could get enough to have here and was told to take all I wanted.
So I did! I knew that I actually had taken more than I needed but I was being a bit anal. I got the gondolas (that's what a run of shelving is called) put together on both walls and had way too many shelves so I just plugged them in and laid the extras on top.
Well as said that was several years ago (maybe 8-10.)
Since then I added a 110V air compressor and used a 50' hose and since there was only the one plug in in the ceiling and one in the middle of the front wall I'd have to drag out extension cords for the buffer/grinder/table saw and even a trouble light and the air hose was a hassle.
Since my best friend was here for a visit we redid the shop.
My friend is a retired mechanical engineer who has remodeled many houses and I give credit to him for his 'Skills' as I lack them. We installed a pneumatic supply line and two duplex electrical boxes.
I took on the task of redoing the shelving into a more usable fashion. I also purchased another roll around for my dad's old tool box to sit on.
This is kind of what the shop looked like when we started/ it's right before I rode out three years ago. (My how my long distance riding equipment has improved )
Notice that my buffer is in front of the bike and the chest freezer and all of the extra shelves.
Well here's some pics of the new and improved shop. The excess shelves have been removed, the buffer table is now by a wall with a plug in close by and is also on a re-dedicated reinforced bathroom vanity.
AND my Baby has plenty of room around it
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

A Place for Everything and Everything in it's Place you say--
Actually since it is pretty organized it should be fairly easy to keep it that way. I still have a couple of drawers in the roll arounds that are empty but that's alright there will come a moment when I get an idea of what to store there.
I have a drawer for specialty tools, a drawer for 'things that measure' etc
The shelving is actually Way Too Deep for household usage as they are 20 inches in depth. However there are a few things that will fit nicely due to the depth. Such as the bags of hardwood pellets for my Traegar--or even ice chests--
By the way--dad's top box is the exact same make and model as mine but dad bought his about 2 years before I bought mine and his spent many a month bolted to the back of a Green Giant pickup truck's bed out in the field. The back is black and warped due to a fire in a pickup box--a spare tire's holder broke and when the tire fell the rim landed on the posts of a spare 12v battery and after a bit the tire caught fire and then it spread--I actually came upon the scene and my dad wasn't happy!
It had happened on a country road but not far from a small town, the fire engines were on their way to save the day.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 4828My shop goes from organized to a tool truck exploded and back to organized with some regularity. I don’t have a lot of space either in the shed or the hoarders corner. I have a lot of rubbermade totes and a labeller that help a lot. Even when it looks really bad, I can tell if someone moved things while I’m at work.
