Thanked: 4207I was working on a few projects for a couple blokes at work.
One fine gents retiring, so a 24k gold clad key light in my home made alumilite/burl blank seemed appropriate.
And my plant manager just had a birthday, so turned this pepper mill for him.
Aside from being one handed which for those of us that rub our meat know is great for our clean handed tasks, it is also made from wood reclaimed from the restoration of the Bluenose II. A legendary sailing ship from the ship builders of Lunenburg Nova Scotia. Sort of a Canadian icon.
It’s predecessor adorns the Canadian dime.
They were fun to make and I am happy with the way they turned out.

Nice work my friend. I take it that it's a 'push button' that 'grinds' the pepper corns?

Thanked: 4207Thanks Roy and yes, there’s a s.s. Rod that runs down the centre from the thumb plunger through to the tip, the silver end is tapered internally and the end of the rod has knurls that crack the corns as it moves in and out by thumb pressure. Gravity does th rest and the cracked pepper comes out that hole.. nice medium grind achieved.
Neat design I’d never seen before I came across the kits in my bunch of boxes. Will definately be making one of these for my own kitchen now that I’ve seen the way it operates..

My best friend is here for a visit from the San Diego area and he and I spent a couple of days helping an old friend fix up her son's home. While the son's home needs a lot of work--I'd gladly trade him for the Boars Nest any day.
The steps off of his deck was literally falling apart (one step broke when his brother in law stepped on it and fell flat on his face).
The entire thing with the exception of the vertical posts had been made using non treated lumber. The stringers sat on non treated lumber so we used some concrete blocks that were already there, then purchased pre-made stringers and used treated lumber.
It's not very pretty to look at but it's very secure and to be honest will probably out last the deck it's attached to.
The mother was the first one to use the finished project

I have had great luck with stopping by a provider's sales outlet that has no cars parked in front of it. Help is bored and willing and able to clue me. I am still a cave man but I can communicate better now. Many functions I don't use but the ones I need are available to me. They even put up with my Asperger's! That is doing something and if they do the job right, they don't have to do it in the future.!

Tired of buying watch straps I made this from kangaroo tail and deerskin I bought for strop material. The deerskin is facing my skin to absorb sweat and its soft and the kangaroo tail has nice texture and both are very strong I believe. The watch is from the 60's,bought from a friend who purchased it in Germany while he was in the military during the Vietnam War.
