Thanked: 4207Well, a little colonial maple should do just fine in a pinch.
Can’t do anything else on it till tomorrow as the G2 is a slow, strong curing epoxy, so I was able to clean up my hinge locations to fit the hinges snugly, but fully, with a little wiggle room for adjustments.
Jumping around the car a bit now, as these various things all need to be done for the next steps..

Thanked: 4207With a bit of steel and some T nuts, I was able to recreate the original functionality I think.
Door latch assy bolts onto a bracket that bolts onto the frame with t nuts so as wood changes over time the handle can be tightened or adjusted. At least that’s what I see on this cool old sketch.
All the holes line up, and there is adjustment between the bracket and the assy so I can account for most issues come mounting I figure, so now I can epoxy them individually then build up the doors.
And happy to say this arrived safely! And is all I need to finish the front off.
Feeling that energy to keep rippin ahead as all this stuff starts to come together…

Thanked: 4207Everything has cured up solid, so now on to final fitment..
Prior to setting in steel I need to verify profile, as the door skins are no longer true I figure start with the frame get it right, then wrap it in the tin, as would have been done originally.
My plan now is to shave the trailing edge side of the upper and lower frame pieces, effectively increasing clearance along the vertical front edge only. While everything fits unwrapped, I need to account for 1/16” more material in the sheet metal and want no binding or rubbing of metal when this is done.

Building this car vicariously is really wearing me out, I hope we can take a break soon.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Yeah, when i was in Middle school my Dad rebuilt a '52 TD and i paid little attention. It's interesting to see how it's done and admire your ability. Great to see the progress Mike!

Thanked: 4207That’s funny.. I did take today off to hit local markets and such during the day with the misses, then watched the McGregor pay per view from Vegas. Ended in a Dr stoppage so hope they get a redo.
Ahh well. Good excuse to kill a bottle of proper 12..

Thanked: 4828With the car coming together and all of the restrictions lifting, I may have to make the next GTA meet so I can see it when it is all done. One more reason to go!
