Cute pooch, Mike-I've said it before, and I'll say it again: dogs make us better people! If for no other reason, you want to live up to the image they have of you when they leap into your arms every day when you come home from working with people, most of whom don't have the character of our dogs.
There are many roads to sharp.

Not to get too religious Aaron but the book of Genesis says that God looked among the animals for a suitable companion for the man but none could be found so he made the woman. First: I think that the dog must have been the last try and I can just see God saying, "Oh! So close!" Second: sometimes I wonder if Adam would have been better off with the dog. When God found him hiding naked and God asked him, " Who told yo you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree I forbid you to eat from?" What was adams reply?..."The woman YOU put here gave it to me..."

Thanked: 56Would have made "go forth and multiply" very awkward, though.
If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.

As some may know there are those here who consider me an 'Enabler' as I either post links, photos OR email or PM such when I think I know of or have something that would be of some help to them.
Well thanks to my friends Mike, Aaron, Glen and many others my longest period without man's best friend ended yesterday (13 years). I have been watching the local Human Society's pages for a couple of years but was hesitant as I do live alone and if I were to make a long bike ride or even be out of town for a couple of days there would be the new household member to deal with.
However my oldest daughter has insisted that they would take care of him.
So here's my new buddy--Travis. He is a year four months and four days old today (at least according to the HS information. He came pre-named and I'm not going to try to change it as I have enough work to get him used to me, the boars nest (stop missing his previous host) etc. I think he has some American Staffordshire Terrier in him. However he was listed as a mixed bred so I don't know for sure.
With the winter sun low on the horizon getting decent pictures in the backyard late morning didn't produce the best results.
I'd picked up a decent 6' nylon leash and took my checkbook and debit card. Online it said it would be $110 but the people said that Travis was 'Sponsored' so I didn't have to pay the adoption fee, they also supplied a brand new bed for him.
He also came with all of his shots until next September, one free vet exam, the ID Chip and a city of Walla Walla Dog License for 2012 he also came with a nylon collar AND a nylon harness and the harness has a pocket to keep small plastic bags for Poop Patrol when on walks.
He'd been in a foster home for about a month and a half and she warned me that she hadn't had much luck breaking him of getting on the couch and sure as s++t the first thing he did was jump up on the couch. Since I don't use the couch much I blocked it off with some bed rails for a bed I'll be installing and he's been using the dog bed. I'm hopeful that I can get him to learn to stay off of the couch and use his bed. He does about 50% of the time, as I write he's laying right beside me and his bed is at the other end of the coffee table--oh well--
I do have another option other than his bed and I have a padded chair that I don't use and he would be welcome to have that as his own.
Anyway he's still got a lot of 'puppy' in him, wants to play bite but stops when told to, he does like to pull when on a walk
So for all of my friends with dogs------------------
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Congratulations Roy.
Travis has a very intelligent look about him
My guess is that he will be a fantastic companion.

Great look. I'm sure, tho, that you have met your match. Enjoy sparing with him for dominance. Rescue animals tend to be strong-willed. It's been two years with Baron, my cat, and we are just getting to the point where he knows I'm going to win most of the time now
