So the question arises. What do you pipe folk use to ream and care for your fine bowls?

Ok pipe cleaners I use after ever smoke. I let the pipe cool off. I take it apart and hit all the orifices . I tend to also roll up some paper towel and spin it in the bowl and shank. I think im a over zealous smoker. If there is a blend I really like I tend to get really busy on the puff. I just can't help it. So now I already have some heavy carbon on the bottom of a few of my pipes enough that a deep channel is made by sticking pipe cleaners in the shank to the bowl. Help me understand how this should go. My Peterson Christmas pipe is already showing signs of wear and tear. Maybe Ill post some pics in the future to show this. Any how just wondering about pipe care.

Hmmmm.......well I don't know then as I am not near as heavy a smoker as you describe. When we talked about cake build up some posts back I believe I commented about how the cake should be reamed down once it gets over a dime thickness but, as for sludge build up like what you describe, I don't get these issues. My cleaning regimen is just as described with a pipe cleaner. You might need to get a few more pipes and have a larger rotation ? Also maybe consider sending yer pipes off to a pipe restorer and have them recondition your pipes. Best I can do for now.

I agree with nightblade. .. I usually smoke 2 maybe 3 bowls out of a pipe . Then clean it and put it in the rack. And when the cake gets to thick ream. And every now and then clean the rime off and the stem
