Here's an example for Dunhill https://www.smokingpipes.com/smoking...unhill-tobacco Most of you guys probably know this already but I didn't have a clue until i came across that article. Unfortunately If a B&M is going to survive these days Cigars are the focus, I feel Pipe smoking is a dying pass time in our rush rush modern world. I once lit a pipe in the smoking lounge near me and the whole lot of Cigar nuts looked at me as if I was doing something illegal lol. I hope the trend will change and maybe the pipe will be king again like it was in the 1950's and 60's as a gentleman's relaxing pass time of choice.
I will so agree with this. Like I said,It's not that I don't appreciate my local, it's just that If I want a new pipe I pretty much have to go online as my locals selection hasn't changed much in a long time and thus I have already gone over it with a fine toothed comb. Ya'll know I like my Pilots mix which is just a rebranded name for a McClellans blend. And I've also combed the dwindling tinned section as well. so when I need more Port or Pilots mix I go there besides hangin out with the crew there as well. That being said more people go in there for a bottle of wine or a cigar or cigarette tobacco than anything else.

And I love it when I go out about town with my pipe hangin outta my mouth. I get all sorts of looks. It's like I came outta the past and they don't know what to make of me ? Weird but that's the way it's goin. I still on rare occasion get a compliment but it seems in this modern Stepford citizen society it's a taboo now like eating fatty food so I get stares or the hey Shirlock or Popeye or Aye Captain(when I wear my (Fiddler on the roof hat) Which is a Greek hat without all the sea braiding stuff on it. .....

On that Note I wish to point out some notably cool Pipe smokers from the past

Norman Rockewell-Famous Illustrator(a distant cousin I found out)
Sailor Jerry-Famous Tattoo artist and the name behind Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum (which is good stuff by the way) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sailor_Jerry

    Bing Crosby
Fred Bear -Famous Bow manufacturer and Hunter

    Just to name a few

Yes of course I like my local shops everything I have pipe wise I have bought locally. I have three shops I visit from time to time they are all very different. First the Tobacco shop Ridgewood NJ is a very high end sort of place they don't sell any tinned tobacco at all he makes his own blends, the guy has been in business for decades. A true tobacconist very experienced and great to talk to, a pipe smoker himself good for picking his brains for information. But he deals in the high end market, sells mostly Dunhill pipes and other premium models if you ever go into this shop to buy a pipe expect to take out a second mortgage lol. Second is JR Cigar this is like going to home depot If you know what you want and they happen to have it great otherwise the staff is rather uninterested and unknowledgeable about anything pipe related, but prices are o.k. and some good deals on common production pipes and tinned tobacco. The third is "Cigar World" this is a really eclectic shop packed full of cigars, hookahs, pipes, humidors, straight razors, knives, furniture etc. if I need an accessory that where I go in a pinch but the place is a mess to understand it takes a day of browsing to find something. the owners are nice people but don't really know too much about pipe culture and tobacco selection is bare minimum. I ordered online for the first time just a few days ago I needed some Haddos Delight couldn't find it anywhere else so there you have it.

Now just think about being in your 20's. I have to watch smoking in public, heck I've been pulled over by the police twice.

I reckon if they got it sorted out their business would last a lot longer. I know of a place in the UK that doesn't have a great selection, but is really old school. They weigh out loose tobacco on what must be an antique scale and have shelves of big old jars like a sweet shop. It kind of reminds me of olivander's in the Harry Potter films.
For years there used to be only one 'genuine' b&m pipe tobacco shop in the city, but during last few years at least two now has come to business. That is great.
I've yeat to visit those new shops but every now and then get few tins from the one that has been here in the city since 1926. Of what i've heard that same kind of evolution has been going on in few other cities here too.
The same dude who owns the local store also has a great pub next to it. One of the not too many places you can still smoke inside (nobody knows for how long).

The prices in those shops are little bit higher but that is ok with me. As Nosey said, they need to pay their rents too.
The selection with pipes or tobacco can't be as good as with online shops but you can find the typical Pete's, Stanwells, Chacoms, Lorenzos etc and some from independent makers from eastern Europe and Scandinavia. And the only Finnish pipe brand that is still left. The name is Tanner (named after our prime minister before the war and diligent pipe smoker too).
Tobacco they sell is sommon SG's, Petes, Capstans, Solanis, Rattrays, MacB's etc etc but i haven't seen bulk for years. As well as everything related to pipes they've always been into cigars and snuff. Nowadays also more and more with e-cigs.
For some reason the availability of decent pipe tobacco has improved some; even from the local markets, gas stations and grocery stores.

Still these days i usually get most of my tobaccos by ordering online, either from Baltic States or Poland. The prices are still dead cheap.

Beautiful Falcon with a great looking stem you have there.
I haven't got myself a new pipe for some years but recently made and exception and picked this from the local b&m. The price was decent. Have yet to try it some day soon.
It's Neerup. The maker behind the brand is Peder Jeppesen from Denmark.

Has it really come to this that you cant walk down the street or drive a car with a pipe in your mouth?

I do both but it makes an extra reason to be careful while driving. I wouldn't want to have a pipe in my mouth while airbag blows off

Yeah i know. I heard this from the local pipe smoker; hadn't been thinking the same until that.
However to smoke or not is up to everyones personal decision. Not up to lawmakers business.

Having saaid that, i really respect those who smoke and take note of other folks too. Not everybody like the smoke so while doing it rather keep distance from those who do not like it.
Still i thinks that the 'room note' of pipe tobacco is much more pleasant than the one from cigarettes.
