Failure to use bacon grease when making cornbread in any form is punishable by law in Tennessee in Bradley, Polk, McMinn, Grundy, and Sequatchie counties.

Fayette, Tipton, Dyer, Shelby, And Hardeman county,s also! or probably anywhere in Tn. by the way you don't need those little paper cups in your cast iron if you do right. i don't have pictures but my wife even has some of those cornbread cast iron jobs that look like ears of corn and some of the ones i call sticks they are about 1" wide by 3" long, just perfect for dunking in my buttermilk.

Roy you better tighten up, Tc

    Will do Boss! :

    Bacon's on the shopping list.

I did make a 1/2 a batch and used the dreaded spay stuff and they didn't stick a bit.

I'd measured and the cups hold 1/3rd of a cup and I put 1/4 cup of batter in and they were perfectly sized.

They were still piping hot when I took this shot---

Having worked in the local grocery business for almost 40 years I know a lot of the guys in the stores, hell the produce manager at Albertsons worked for me when he was only 16 years old. The meat manager at Albertsons worked as a cutter at my store when he was only 25,

Anyway I was at another store and the meat manager marked a 2# package of thick cut bacon ends and pieced down from the regular price of $4.99 to $2.50 as it was going to pull date in a few days.

I saved the really nice big pieces for later use and cut the rest up a bit and put them in my Lodge DO and in the oven at 275 to render the fat out.

Since this thread has been going stale on the list of threads it's time to give it some life blood again. Today I heated up the Lodge chicken fryer and made breaded chicken thighs served up with garlic powder and mushrooms Mac-N-Cheese. You may drool now Roy and Glenn.

I know we’re not supposed to talk about stores and buying/selling in this forum, but BassPro in Canada has a sale on for a Lodge combo pack that looks pretty sweet - and that is in Canadian dollars!

While I may be mistaken I don't think that there is anything wrong about posting about things like this.

Whenever I get a notice of say Greaseless Compounds on sale or free shipping of things I Always Post so that others can take advantage of the offers.

Now Evaluations and Pricing of Razors etc those are an entirely different thing.
