Thanked: 580Had mussels last night, should have taken a photo. Delicious, and available all year round here. They are a regular. Nice with homemade chili sauce.
Corn on the cob is at peak now, so it's cheap and I have eaten more than my fair share. Great big dollop of butter. Yum.

I would agree---to a point. BUT ONLY TO A POINT!
When I was a child I was the 'fussy eater' there were many things (especially veggies) that when my parents (especially my father) insisted I eat that would not only gag me but my stomach would start to heave. So I started to refuse. I saw no reason to eat something that my body tried to violently expel.
As time went on this didn't change and my father being the disciplinarian decided that I would eat the offending foods and if I didn't I would be punished. He could get that leather belt off of his trousers faster than you can imagine.
I would hate to try to count the times that I had received a whipping until I gagged down the revolting food.
I vividly recall in about 1961-62 when I gagged down some beets only to receive the whipping because my father didn't see me eat them and believed that I'd passed them onto my siblings (who would eat things for me so that I could avoid yet another whipping).
Once I had a family of my own I Swore To GOD that if any of my children didn't care for a food, I'd never force them to eat it!
I've told all of my children this.
Just because your mother or I don't care for a food doesn't mean that you won't like it. And just because you don't like it prepared one way doesn't mean you won't like it prepared another.
I'm blessed with three grown children who love their veggies and most foods in general.

I'd put the link here but in Georges typical fashion I'd get a slap due to the language. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I have a three year old and a 5 month old now. Second round here, I made the first 2 eat like your dad did Cuda.
But as long as the 3 year old tries it, and you can tell by his reaction, and doesn't like it then he doesn't have to eat it. He likes almost everything I cook. So he does have a well rounded palateLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

I thank you for understanding that not everyone likes every thing and at times it takes time to learn to appreciate certain foods. : tu
I wish more parents would be more open minded. Just because they 'the parent' is having a great meal doesn't mean that the children are having the same and are only eating as there is nothing else to eat and dreading it the entire time.
It has taken years to either learn to like certain foods or to find how to prepare them so that I enjoy them. Foods that all those years ago were gagged down are now consumed with a fair amount of enjoyment and at least not being rejected from my body.
My mother would have told you that she wasn't a good cook as she HAD to cook. When she made beef stew you were lucky to have an onion that had been quartered! What? Take the time to dice it?? Well a huge slimy chunk of onion would be rejected by my little body. But I loved the flavor of the sauce. So once I was grown I would finely dice the veggies and make a semi stew and loved it. Over the years the veggies gotten slightly bigger but not to mom's standards.
Anyway I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your later children for understanding that not everyone likes everything! :

Thanked: 580Good philosophy. My mother never made us eat anything, but she was a very good cook and had a knack of making just about everything look and taste good.
We ate some weird and wonderful things, cheap cuts etc. because of finances. A bonus was my father did a lot of diving, so seafood was on the menu often. Pretty sure that is why I am not a fussy eater. Always keen to try new dishes.
Did the same thing with our children, what they didn't eat someone else would polish off. And now the grandkids. "Don't eat it if you don't like it." They usually do.Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown ~ Jim Morrison

Thanked: 227We are in exactly the same boat a three year old and 5 month old 😂 we also have a ten year old girl amd like most ten year old girls she's fussy.
I'm quite lucky with the three year old as she actually wants to try what daddy makes.
Sometimes she's not keen as some flavours are strong. But she will try it again later and might like it then so we just carry on ☺

Yeah I've got a 24 and 20 year old before this round of little blessings. All mine are boys. My 3yr old loves to help me cook.
And I'm a good cook, well at least no one complains And we run a catering BBQ business as well.
It's a joy to cook with my son, and I think being older this time I've learned to be more lenient with the kids when it comes to certain things.
