Thanked: 485Tuesday
My order from Mike’s Natural Soaps arrived this morning, two of the Pine and Cedarwood tallow based shaving soaps. They’re large tins, one will probably last me more than six months, I’m not sure how to store the other one; I’m thinking maybe the fridge?
The lather was really, really creamy. This is my first tallow based soap and I quite like it. I’m newish to soaps, having used mainly creams for the past year. I face lathered, for me that seems maybe the way to go with soaps? Normally I build a lather in a bowl with cream, but that’s not been working for me all that well with the soaps. I think I’m going to have fun ‘playing’ with this soap; working out how best to use it. I like the fact that it comes in a tin but I would have liked a stronger scent.
The actual shave was nearly perfect. I had given the Klas Törnblom 10 laps on the Shapton 16k on the 6th of June (I’m finding the honing journal handy), and I’ve only shaved with it once or twice since then, so the edge was nice and smooth.
Hope you're all having a nice week so far, thanks for all the great pictures :-)

Thanked: 485Oh, ta. Is that tallow based? I need to do some more research, I know tallow is rendered beef fat or something... I'm guessing I'll have to keep it cool when the hot weather does come; though it's cold now. I'm also wondering if it's best used hot or cold. That is, normally I dribble some hot water on top as I have a shower, and then poor that off and load the brush, but I did read something somewhere about using some soap or other best with cold water and cold brush. I should PM Obie...
It's nice; I love it; but tell me you're saying twenty nine ninety five not two thousand nine hundred and ninety five...Last edited by carlmaloschneider; 07-10-2012 at 05:25 AM.
