So tonight for your viewing pleasure, looked at this razor alot since I've owned it. It's in excellent shape given its age I believe 1840's. Could decide what to do and finally came to conclusion. Name: 20171030_201001.jpg

First pic is before second and third are after. Went with 2k wet/dry then 3k Tracy and finally Mothers. Scales got 3k and Mothers. Left alot behind because I just didn't feel it should be bothered. Snugged up the pivot which has steel domes. Pretty happy, now to the hones tomorrow I hope, with success. Wedges and I struggle to find a common ground.

Cutting a fresh bevel where none exists on an old wedge is actually part of restoration more than it is regular honing. It can be a long road. Don't rush it and put it down once you get to your time limit or pissed off, which ever comes first.

That's what I have done with the others. I have a bout 4 in a rotation. One day I'll shave with them

I have a theory that sometimes the metal gets damaged below the surface and because of that you sometimes have to remove quite a bit more metal that anticipated to get to solid steel. I have had old wedges hit the bevels setter for several sessions before it got a solid and clean bevel. Starting one of those is a commitment of unknown time. I have had a couple that went really quick, but they are the exception and not the rule for sure.

This is true, just stuck 1 layer of tape on and nice even small bevel. Didn't fully set it as it's time for bed but it's nice to see a small even bevel coming to life.

Also, before I heard about " cell rot" on SRP, a person that works with vintage knives for a living had given me a similar warning. After I saw celluloid rot explained on here I realized what they were talking about.

Razors are small, so this will last a long time:
