What I've been using for many applications is using a hair flattening iron. Austin turned me onto it and it works great. He said you can find used ones in St Vinnies, Goodwill etc however I just ordered one. I suppose if you used some aluminum foil to protect the iron you could 'Borrow' the lovely bride or girlfriends to try once.

One thing that's really nice about the hair iron is that you can apply heat to just a small area such as say the toe and heat and bend just that part.

Sounds like that would work well too. Do those heat the top and the bottom at the same time?

I'm pretty happy. I may pick up a diamond file and try to clean up the bottom of the V a bit.Name: DSCN1818.jpg

Mine heats from both sides/plus it has a control for the heat. It really works sweet!

Working on a 2-razor box.....Evicted Cheech and Chong from this old Mappin and Webb box. Some crazy wood....Any ideas what wood it is?

Always thought it looked unfinished, so I pried the top pad out and gave it 2 rounds of dark Minwax poly stain.

The metal cartouche was missing, so I made another from a bit of pearl.

Made a new, thicker top pad with a piece of balsa, two layers of foam, and some fabric.

A shaving brush followed by a backwards circle of tape cleaned the dust and crud out of the bottom.

Anyhoo, I am happy with the outcome. Much nicer!

That is one nice looking box you got there my friend. Any chance that the wood is quarter sawn oak?
