That Elliot is going to look great in the MOP. Those scales are awesome.
Thanks, Rez! Indeed these old reground-from-wedge Sheffies are remarkable, IMO.
The thick, heavy tang and a perfectly awesome 'Big American' grind!
TBH, the weight of the scales deserves to be overpowered by the blade....
    Whenever possible!

Gonna be a gift for someone special in the future. Has to be right!

Well RezDog,,,I do have a tumbler, ( avid shooter/reloader) ,,,tried it as a well known razor guy extolled using one. I hated it. Never again . Just me I’m sure. I have to have something in my hand that I can control just where and how material gets worked. Tumblers , though they aren’t as devious as a buffer , just do everything. I may not want everything to be worn over. Again,,, it’s just me I’m sure. I’d rather sneak up on it ,, short cuts be dam*ed , and do it my own way.

Hey Mark,,, you can just send a text message so quickly instead of manually writing out a letter with a fountain pen in calligraphy as a thank you.
Remember in a day of CNC machines and duplicarvers I make a living with a mallet and chisel.
    I understand that.

And I understand I’m an idiot for not embracing a quickie way of restoring a 150 yr old razor.

No my friend; you are a true craftsman who takes pride in his work.

I only wish that I had not only your talent but your patience which I think is close to that of Job.

Few years back, I started redoing and hand polishing blades while ignoring the TV. Now I've downsized and am... hand polishing blades while ignoring the TV.
As Mark says, there is something abut doing the finicky things by hand which make it mine.

Absolutely. I too make use of power. But it’s seems to me that in some circumstances the use of power comes at the lack of skill and knowledge.
Once skill and knowledge are in place power can then be used more judiciously to speed a process you are in control of and know a desired outcome.
Otherwise I see too many “I got me a buffer now so how do I restore a vintage razor,,,?”

    Quite simply,,,, you don’t.

Finally finished this Frederick Reynolds. I definitely don't set any speed records as it's been too long. I've got another one in the hopper--hopefully I will be able to post again soon. Feels great to bring these things back to life and shave with them! I've got a full post in the the restoration thread. Enjoy!

That's the magic of it, right there. It's what makes this hobby so fulfilling.
