You know Sharptonn, I think we should should address both the humidity and off-gassing issues at once and mitigate them both. So, I put the hygrometer in as 32t had suggested, along with two desiccant bags underneath the lining. The lining is hard to explain but it's totally breathable. We are maintaining a constant relative humidity of 48%. The OAT in the house is constant at 77F. I think we are good on RH.

I plan on drilling 3/16" holes on the sides of the display case to allow the gas to escape (and breathe). Is there anything else that I should be aware of in your opinion? Please tell me, I'll listen. I value your opinion as well as the other members who are trying to help me achieve my goals.

Maybe shoulda posted this in strops? but it's what I've been working on and didn't want to start a new thread there just to share a couple pictures. Got some nice 9 oz. horsehide in the mail and cut some 2 foot by 2.5 inch strops. I've got a little linen fire hose cleaned up and nice new strop hanger hardware made by sharptonn, works fantastic, many many thanks my friend!

I didn't want to leave it just a boring piece of blank leather so I sketched up a little "logo". I'm not much an artist but to transfer the logo I laid the paper on the leather then traced it using pressure. It left a slightly dented copy of the image in the leather then I went over that with pencil and then used a wood burner to burn it in.

This is the third strop I've made and probably the best due to better quality of leather and cool hardware.

    Looks very nice! :

Now where were you and your wood burning tool last year when I was struggling making that damn mileage post for my best friends wedding?
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Okay Sharptonn I think I have bridged the gap on the off-gassing issue and humidity. I measured down 1/4" on the bottom section of the display case and placed a hole 1" apart all the way across on both sides. I think this will allow the case to breathe and if the build up of gas from the celluloid scales happens, then it should vent out through the sides. I will monitor to ensure we have attained the desired solution. I appreciate everyone's help on this!

Good air exchange is key, I think! Should be good if everything is stable!
    Nice work!

Looks great, Tuzi! Man! You are quite the craftsman!
Should not the brass thumb-nut go on the front (leather) side?
I suppose it matters not! Some welded 1 inch rings arrived today to use on the clips.
    Sweet strop!

Thanks! Yes, I think I will turn the screw around and get the brass in the front. I like it either way, it's a nice piece of hardware you've created!
