Tuzi, my scales are .100 thick and they do flex but maybe not enough at the tang area. Ill check that out. Thanks for the help G and Tom. I will put an eye on it while closing and see whats causing this. Damn old blades. Ha.

And that brush handle with a quality knot. Nice!
I always go thinner on wood,Jerry.

Yep I was thinking the same thing, those scales look thick and that wedge could be thinner to,, Tc

Its possible they are not flexing as much as they need. And TC, your right on the wedges. I got a nice angle on them and the thickness at the inside is right to hold scales apart for the blade but ill thin them down a bit.

Thanks Tuzi for the words of wisdom. I will get them squared away.

Damn Mike, that is thinner than ive ever went. Well, guess ill thin them out some more. Then all will be happy. I hope.

Here it is and it's much better! Now I still had to put 2 washers on one side and one on the other. I'll try it with only one on one side and see what happens. The scales are now .075 to 0.80 inches. Way thin in my opinion but if this is normal then so be it. I will have to do some sanding of the edges of the scales to get things to match up better than the finish shaping. And TC, I cut the wedge down a touch more. It could use a bit more angle but I was running out of wood. The spread on the pivot end, with just the wedge in place, is about 1/2". I'd rather see 3/4" but to get that I'll need to make another wedge.

So here it is being happy now.

Tuzi, the tang is touching the scale on the side it WAS closes too. This is also the side with one washer.

I thought it was odd, and maybe I'm just not understanding but with two washers on the Show Side, opposite to the side it wants to touch, makes it center. If I put two on the side that is touching then it pulls the blade closer to the side. Why

All about the flex, torque, and pivot points.
You are biasing two diverging angles back towards each other about 4” from their flexation point. The torque will be greater on the side with two washers, but the resulting movement is exaggerated, and noticeable at the blade tip since it is furthest away from the point of union..
Or in other words, that wood be damn unpredictable..

Back to the tang thing. If you put more washers, it makes the scale shorter so the blade closes more toward the other scale. By the same token, if you remove both washers, the tang hits the scale when closing and (YES) pushes it more toward same scale.

Always do one thing at a time. Seems you have to start over every time you try something.
Remember that this blade had no washers from the factory.

I guess im still not understanding as the blade pulls toward the side with two washers. Not away from that side.

    On another note.
Just tried it with no washers and it centers.
Ok, ok, im done playing. This one gets no washers! A thin coat of CA on the inside to seal the wood and in the pin holes. Please slap me the next time you see me as i never tried with no washers until now.

When things get super confusing going back to the most simple and base point is often best.

Wow,, flex, torque, divergent angles or whatever. The factory in its day turned out hundreds or razors a day and probably didn’t use verniers or calculate how many washers to stack up in one side vs . Another. I haven’t come across any “factory “ razor with stacks of washers to center a blade. Why is this a problem now with one razor? I don’t think the fix is adding stacks of washers to get the blade to center do you?
