Thanked: 315Don't have a stubtail shaver, but I LOVE the look of those fan shaped blades. The design even looks older than most other razors.
Don't know about the goat part, but the rest was spot on.
The Masonic W&B may be left as is for now. I really should have been more careful not too let the buffer hit the etched area and just cleaned it up. I think I found the original scales and I'm going to try and fix them up.
The Greaves is going to get a lot of hand sanding before rescaling. I had some scales nearly finished a couple of years ago, but I wasn't happy with them and never completed them. May post a pic of them later.
I'm not sure about the 8/8. I may sand it some more, but it is such a hard blade to come by I don't want to damage it by removing too much metal.

Thanked: 4826In the early years, Glen said something that made sense. “A good restore starts at the time of purchase.” Meaning some blades are just not worth the time and effort. It took a while before that really registered in my brain as to why my restores were taking so long. It also made me question why I felt that all these antiques blades needed to look like the day they were made. I have since worked hard at trying to get them clean and free of corrosion but then trying to recreate some of the true patina to have them look like 100and 150 year old razors. :-)

Thanked: 104I always feel kind of bad about removing original scales from a blade. Sometimes the bug bites are too bad, but I get a bad feeling when I take a blade out of its original skin. I currently have three of four that are waiting to be reskinned, but I just dont have the skill to do them justice at this point. One day, not today, but one day.

Got home last night from the funeral in WA. All went as well as can in that situation. Thanks to all for the good wishes.
This morning I'm sitting here waiting for my new employer to call and say come to work. Guess there are truck issues. So I figured I'd finish up this JR Torrey while waiting.
Marblewood scales finished with Tru-oil.
Torrey blade (11/16, full hollow) was donated to me by Sharptonn. Guess because I'm prettier than him. Ha. Thanks, Tom!
Brass pins, collars and washers, and I made the collars with the Dapping kit that was a birthday gift from Cudarunner. Thanks, Roy.
Wedge is Ebony wood. Wedge wood and scales wood donated to me by Tuzi, Thanks, Garrison.
I'm happy with the end product although I can see in the pics that I need to sand the wedge down a bit more as it sticks out just a touch.
Hope you all like it. Still needs to go to the stones. Maybe this weekend.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 104Torrey made some very attractive blades, and those scales go nicely with it. You made a real beautiful piece.

The lines of those scales are a winner, subtle and smooth!

Thanks guys. Im trying to learn to shape scales a little better to fit the blade. The standard bananna shape just doesnt make me happy. This one went well so the next might be a flop. Ha. Who knows. I might have just got lucky this time.
