My Local 25 year old apprentice was here today. I wanted to show him how to tighten pins. This razor only took maybe 10-20 light taps and it was once again holding in all positions.
My apprentice was impressed. I'm glad as I gave him the razor. He plans on having a go with it either later today or tomorrow before he heads to work.
There are many out there that might envy him as his beard is not only very sparse but also very thin and soft and doesn't grow very fast at all. Even when he was using the dreaded 'electric' he only shaved about every 3rd day.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Sure is! And it works great!
Credit goes to my friend Geezer as he had the original idea--Post #83 is where I started on the modification--

Nice looking razor. Is the tuff glide to prevent rust under the scale? And the silicone on the scales??
Roy,
That is great you have somebody studying with you. I would love to have someone to work with like that. Learning hands on with a friend is certainly more enjoyable.

Thanked: 315Since I want to practice pinning before long I need to try and get a piece of RR track cut off the next time I'm in AL. That should make a good anvil. I think I know someone that has a scrap piece.

Hard surface is hard surface--Here's where I showed how I'd cleaned up and polished what my dad called his 'Field Anvil'. A simple piece of steel would work just as well as a piece of Rail Road Track

Tuf-Glide is something you can look-up and buy easily.
Basically, a micro-bonding lube. Military stuff. Made by Sentry.
I apply it to all my blades after honing and wipe it off.
Just one application has kept my blades nicely for years. One.
The silicone rejuvenates the old celluloid and makes the colors pop.
I think perhaps it staves off the rot if used once a year? So far, so good.

Finally had some time and tried to recycle some old collars.
Did not work well because lots of old German razors used thinner pins.
So, I unpinned the bottom too and pinned it with 4 of ajkenne's collars.
Nice and tight and closing great. Added more gold to the tang stamps with RubnBuff.
The factory Blued tang was excellent.
Hopefully, I did not booger the edge doing all this.
My Tripoli Boarhide strop should tell that tale!
