Pulled MrZ"s scales from the oil last night, gave um a quick going over with steel wool, a thin top coat of CA over the repair ( epoxy won't polish ) and polished them up.

Just need to fill the stamps with gold leaf paint.

What is a snurdler? It cannot be what the online dictionaries say, which I am unwilling to reproduce in this post.

Yes, I soak them in Neatsfoot oil. Typically for a week, but these weren't that dry, so they only went four days.

I've been surprised at how some of the nastiest scales can be brought back to life, with time and patience.

I could be wrong here, but i believe what a snurdler is a device to take a pinch of soap out of you tub of soap to put in a bowl to start building lather. Keeps the amount the same and small. Less waste.

Well done, Jerry. A snurdler is indeed for extracting a snurd of soap.
Despite what the urban dictionary says!

Made a simpler one with a bent tip to squoosh the soap/croap onto the bottom of my shaving cup.
Will do pretty later! Great idea that has worked for me since the oringinal postin you made.
