I remember him taking a pic of a log taller than the doorway he propped it up on.
Seems this is where all the black comes from. Dave has a B52 brush of it.
    Gonna get that one!.........

I would have to search and find out wich box it is hiding in! It is similar to what I have found Redwood to be.

It still grows and if you stabilize it how would you know if it is old or recent?

Fun stuff but not scale material in my opinion

Well, Bog oak is! These scales are thin and solid as a rock.
Happy to have a few examples!

It is quite soft, but very nice timber to work with. Kauri was used a lot in boat building.
Looks quite nice turned, would make a nice brush handle.

[QUOTE=sharptonn;1812478]Not all Bog Oak is black, Jerry.
I have a Razor from MikeT here which has bog oak scales.
Unmistakable stuff. Seems he sent a bunch of the black around?

Tom. If you remember, he posted a pic of the piece he had.
It looked like a fresh rail road tie, full of creosote.

Nice vid. Thanks for posting. Log he called it. That thing was the size of a house! Very interesting for sure. I'd love to find a piece of that stuff for scales. Bet it would cost a bit of money. Then the fact that the guy selling might be pulling your leg.
