Just pulled this rotten door frame out of an old house in desperate need of a new front door. So much rot.

Discovered the door frame is solid 6x6 oak. Garbage of course...... except when it's me doing the work. Obviously taking this home to re purpose.

Puts a big old smile on my face.

Pics won't upload. I'll try again when I get home.

This was an old door frame that was also bearing the weight of the outside bricks. Hence, why it's so big. The second pic is of the top header. Most of it has rotted away. Lots here for me to play with.

    As it's been said--One man's trash--Another man's treasure.

    Nice score.

There is a lot of great bits and pieces left there. You will also be able to laminate some of it for some great bowls. Time to get turning.

Nice snag. I think i'd have saved a big chunk of it too. Good eye in finding a treasure.

After today's honey-do list, grilling some burgers and brats, I got out the tools and made a set of Olivewood scales, spent a little time with the buffer and touched up the Imperial blade, and got the next blade, Our Own H. Boker ready for the next set of scales that I haven't planned on yet. I'll spend this evening doing the hand sanding as this is right off the belt sander...

Got it sanded to 1000 grit and to colors and grain is just popping out like crazy! I'm seeing some pink in there that I didn't see before. I can't wait to see this one finished. I did a test on some scrap with Tru-oil and it didn't really darken the wood so I put the first coat on just now. These are going to look great! And it's not a real oily wood so I shouldn't have issues this time. Crossing my fingers.

Repurposed some scales I got from Tom. Lighthouse scales. They were glued together and pinned at the wedge??? Unpinned, cleaned them up a bit and put the Boker in them using some collars I haven't used before.
