Checked with a antique shop near my parents today. Said they had gotten in a nice selection of straight Razors but a man came and bought ALL or them!

If you can take a file and file the metal any machine shop can cut it. It will all depend on what they have.

Personally for working on razors, I'd have those 1' pieces cut into AT LEAST 6" pieces but 3" would still work great/I'm speaking from my experience using mine which is 4.5" long---plenty long

A lot will depend on how smooth of a finish you want to start with at home.
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

A 4" electric grinder would take care of the burr.

    I used a 7" disc grinder, and 4" air driven, disc grinder.Name: KIMG3393.jpg

Dad's got a grinder I was thinking about using it for that.
I wanted a slightly larger anvil anyway so I'm going to see how much it will cost to get a piece cut up.

Probably going to visit the Amish tomorrow. Need to get me some of that apple butter! Well, my bathroom scale says I don't need it but I sure want some.

My brother cut me two pieces. One about 2" and another one that i believe is slightly longer. Not sure what size I really want. Obviously 2" should be sufficient for pinning though.
I'm going to have them save a 1ft piece for me to use in the future if I ever have my own shop.

This is a Wostenholm with what I'm assuming is a faux frameback style.

At first I liked the patina and wanted to just hone it up, but then I started to wonder if that isn't devil's spit and if it won't get worse over time.

There is a small bit of discoloration at the bevel near the toe- that's just a bit of surface rust that I believe will resolve after hitting the stones.

So, the question: does this one need to see some sandpaper to protect it for future use, or is that just patina and it can be left alone?

Is the back brass? Sometimes, you can pop those off. makes it easier to go at the blade..
