Tom that's a beauty! Any chance to see the scales on that one?
It looks vaguely familiar, but I've got some memory issues though.
Jerry, yes I was a little worried that it was a "broken" factory reject for a reason.
What I'm hoping is that if it's taken up 1/16" and given a tip that is a little more supportive, that it will be okay. Probably will need a little shoulder work too..?
Please don't feel obligated to waste time on it.
If you want a different blade, I'll try to find one that will work.

Perhaps this will trigger the old memory, MikeT? Hanging out in my desk in a green Crown bag...............

Ahah! Now I remember, you worked your magic on that to get the blade to line up.
Once I get through the holidays I'll be ready to get back to work I'm thinking.
I've got a 8/8 W&B celebrated with a huge chunk off the tip to turn into a super awesome shorty. Also another 10 random broken blades to turn into shorties, and a Herder 5 day shorty set to make! Lol
Then about 20 blades that need scales, and 20 restore projects.
This is partly why I've been giving them away, vicariously restoring some of these... And then also give some fun out.
It has been nice to watch the great work!
Hey Tom, you want any projects?

No more projects for me. I have enough in the Que to last me until I tire of it and then some!

No problem Mike T. I will give it all my attention and cross my fingers. After the removal of the crack and shaping the edge, i will work on the tip. If at that point im still gaining ground on it i will need to do some stabilzer work to it. Its all for fun. It might still work so im willing to give it a serious go.

Crack and broken tip gone. Stabilizer corrected and it's about ready to get eyeballed to the scales.

A solid 6/8 now. Best I could do to save it from near death.

Got the scales reshaped and ready. Then I realized I forgot to pick up a piece of Brass for the wedge. Well, this is it for tonight then...

How will the balance be with a brass wedge?

Maybe some glow in the dark plastic?

Good point Tim. Balance means very little until it is out of whack and then it is everything.

It is looking good Jerry. If the wedge is small you might be ok and that blade is short and thin so you might be fine.
