Perhaps an earlier fix to a warping scale.

I'd say its a stabilizer, to stop shrinkage, and warpage.

At least that's all I can come up with, with the knowledge of plastics that I can remember. Took a couple years of classroom study, in industrial plastics.

Seeing as how you are going to remove the inlays, you will dissolve a bunch of that scale then, it will be interesting to see what the whole piece looks like once it is out of the cell

Yeah I don't know, it's strange. In the thread: 10Pups Restores A Reaper.
I don't think he ever came to a conclusion.
It wasn't attached to the inlays. And the aluminum wire is not found in all reapers. So that kind of adds to the mystery.
I'd like to hear what Tom thinks about it, he IS infact one of the Designated Supreme Knowers of a Great Many Things (DSKGMT).
    Hehehe

Likely from the factory to eliminate the 'inlay bulge'? Lots of inlay there!

At some point in production they addressed complaints in this manner, I should think.

Yes, or reinforcement, if you will. I have seen it on other razors with inlays before.

So, MikeT. Have you drawn an outline of those scales yet?

Thank you Sir! That makes sense to me about the wire..

I drew 3 outlines, and put one in deep storage notebook, I try to have an outline of every set I make and also original manufacturer shapes just in case.
It would suck to destroy the scales without the shape, easy step to miss.
    Question:
These scales seem to have shrunk a bit. The wedge seems to have been ground a little to account for this.
My question is whether or not I should make the new scales just a touch longer, or just make a shorter wedge..?
