Hey fellas, sorry I haven't been on much lately but my back is screwed up & has been hurting really bad. I just found out it is fractured from an incident. It may have more than one but I shall find out. After losing my best bud, I have tried to do a little as long as I don't worsen my back pain to keep occupied. The dr tried to give me Tylenol 3 & I told him that wasn't going to cut it because I went to the ER on night & that was what they gave me but I knew they wouldn't work but they said that was the strongest they could give me. My dr gave me something better.

Here's one that had some crappy scales on it so I changed them with some ivory which make it look better possibly original, a Marsden Bros made around the mid 1800's.

Here's a Western States cutlery with covered tang that barely had some green paint in the letters so I painted them & was successful.

I have a Crandall Cutlery that had a broken scale at the wedge so I did a repair & glued it to the wedge but I'm not happy with it. It has beveled scales & I have another set but they're horn & a lot bigger. I still need to look in another box of scales I have. I still might be able to use the scales, it's the collars I'm mainly not happy with plus some light scratches on the scales but I didn't want to round the edges on the bevel. I can carefully sand them out but if I have another set, that would be better. I also have some extra rope scales which they also used on some of them.

Sorry to hear about your back. I was out of work for a month with a bad sprain/strain so I can't imagine getting around with the stuff some people do. Take care of yourself.

Looking good! How did you paint the lettering? Use a razor or something to remove the excess?

No rolling pin (or garage), so I was working two pieces of firehose on a towel rod. I had a GENIUS idea to fold the hose with the edges in the middle to loosen up more debris. Now I have a hole in one hose that is either going to be a one sided hanging strop or a paddle strop.

Thus goes the best laid plans of man--

I've had worse happen and I was 'sure' that it would work.

I have a set of those cheap paint pens so I painted it & sanded it with some 3k grit sand paper I have or I have some 4k, 5k, 6k, 8k & 12k micro mesh.
