no. No bog oak sent this way. I'm just hoping I don't sand too far down and go past the dye. Then I'd be starting all over. Hey, This is just for fun and learning so I'm enjoying the experimenting.
I do have some Ebony pieces. Thats hard, heavy and black. Bet that would work. I hadnt thought about that. I had just used some horn dust for the repair. I will give it a try on the next one.Last edited by Gasman; 02-22-2019 at 08:28 PM.

Hey Jerry, are you applying just CA, or mixing it with something first.
If mixing, then the bubbles are getting in then. If just plain CA, I found thin CA is easier to remove bubbles with a needle before it sets.
Unless doing a bog dust patch, I plan on purchasing colored CA for that very reason.
Don't know if that helps.
On really thick CA finishes, I had a cloudy haze that would need to be buffed out periodically until it was all worked out.
But it sounds like you're dealing with a bunch of small bubbles..?“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

New trick, Jerry. Burn a few wooden matchsticks, remove the gray head, then smash them into a powder.
There's your black filler. Hell, a chuck of charcoal briquette would probably workMike

Nice idea Mike. I will have to remember that one. Mike T. I use the thin stuff when it comes to CA. The bubbles are coming from the horn. I didn't notice them until the next day. I've sanded them out and did the CA again and more show up. I feel its a losing battle. I've dealt with this on oily wood but have figured out how to beat it then. This was all just playing anyway. I have a couple more sets of old horn scales to play with if I don't get these cleaned up enough to salvage. Still. Its the fun of experimenting.

I sanded them down and got rid of most of the blemishes. There is still a couple but the picture hides them. I think I can live with this. Can you tell me which one had a broken off Wedge end? It was only the tip. About 1/4 inch. I don't remember. Ha.
I still need to drill out the holes again but I think this will pass. It's just Sharpening, right?

Excellent work Jerry!
What ever problems you were having with bubbles, seems you figured it out better than fine.
So the bubbles were coming out of the horn.. I wouldn't have guessed horn would hold so many bubbles, makes me think about a stabilization vacuum chamber.. But apparently there's no need for such, as you conquered that issue!“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

I sanded the hell out of them Mike. I'm sure there is not much CA left on them. Could be a little. I too was thinking oil and a vacuum chamber. But then there would be the oil issue. Oil would help the horn for sure, but when sealing completely in Ca I can see more issues. I still feel a full CA job on Horn scales might not be a great idea. But it sealed the horn well and I think that how I was able to get the shine on them. I few seconds on a buffer, and I mean a few! I bet I did no more than 5 seconds to pull that shine out. Kinda scared me. Like what the hell.... Oh.... I can live with that.
Just got it off the strop.
Honed it starting with the Green Brick, but was having a little issue on the bevel set so went to the 2K. Then the Washita and Thuri. Still wasn't completely happy with TPT so after some stropping I went back to the thuri for another couple hundred laps. Then finished on leather for a few hundred more laps. Hoping all will be good tomorrow morning for the test shave. I put some time into getting her honed up so I hope it was worth the effort and I don't have to go back and start over. 1/4 hollow is more of a pain to hone then my full hollow razors. It's just Sharpening, right?
