You know, I've always loved custom-turned shaving brushes, and with the recent thread lately on lathes, I actually thought about investing in a lathe and the other tools. But seriously, I don't really have time or money for the hobbies I already have. The last thing I need is another rabbit hole-must be strong.

But if you had one you could turn washers along with brush handles.

That stool in your shop that is a little wobbly could have a new shaft and bushing made for it to sit comfortably.

If you went quality you could turn micro fastener bolts to test fit your scales!

Haha-I used to teach that back when I taught 9th graders about 20 years ago. Odysseus didn't have enablers on a shaving forum tempting him with shiny stuff lol!

Ive kicked around the idea of trying my drill press for a vertical lather. I figure it should be close enough for a brush handle. Then i checked and found my chuck dont come out. Cheep-ass drill press. I still keep thinking about it. It cant be too hard to do. Come-on Aaron, you can do it!

What if you drill a stout (now there's a word I don't often use apart from beer...) screw into the centre of the piece leaving a bunch of the screw sticking out. Then cut the head of the screw off, chuck it up, and away you go?

    EDIT: https://www.popularmechanics.com/hom...-into-a-lathe/

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I too have considered making brush handles on my drill press. My stumbling block is the tool rest. It would be dangerous to do without a tool rest, plus my drill press is a floor model and the height seems a bit awkward as well. I will at some point in the not so distant future buy a lathe, at this point the Taig lathe seems like the leader.

I have seen setups that allow the turning of things such as pen bodies on a drill press, however I would worry that since a drill press isn't designed for any real sideways pressure that doing so could damage not only the accuracy of drilling but perhaps damage the bearings/bushings etc.

    Just a thought--
