Nice Dave! So these were blanks too when you started? I have some studying up to do before I start this but these look more thin than I expected they would be for blanks. Doesn't seem like you would be able to do much if any grinding on the blade before heat treat.
Did you just clean up the casting marks then heat treat? I watched most of that video but it was hard to tell much with the language barrier and watching on the tiny phone screen. I'll have to watch again on the PC

The blanks are thick. Blade edge is about 1/8 inch.

    Just to be clear.
You heat treat, temper and then do the finish grinding. Also, pray a lot!

Yeah, thanks. That much I actually did know but the rough grinding is before the HT with anything very thick right? These are probably 1/16" or less.

They're pretty doggone hollow right out of the punch.

Looks like a nice replacement. That heal sure is close to coming out the bottom.

Yeah, I have an old Cast Steel 13/16 in dark horn that is about the same period that does stick out the bottom. I figured maybe the horn shrunk or warped but even if it did it was really close to begin with. Cut the crap out of myself running my fingers along the horn.
Love that horn with that blade though. Nice piece!

I think there is perhaps 1/1.5mm between the edge and the end of the scale. I tried running my finger and it didn’t touch.

I must admit having a moment of stress when adjusting the wedge and mounting the blade though ^^

Must have been a nasty feeling Paul ! I guess you didn’t do it twice ! :-/
