I recently got a Band Saw. But I didn't have a place to store it safely or a bench to use it on as its a bench top model. So I did some head scratching and video watching on youtube and came up with this...

    Attachment 326340

I was going to take pics of before but I just cant never remember when I get on a roll. To the left is a closed cabinet with sliding doors full of radio parts above my Air Compressor. The Cabinet has my buffer and scroll saw on top of it. there are two shelves above that. Nest is a shelf that has my Band Saw, bench sander and a bunch of brake parts as I need to do the brakes on my car. Working Right you see my Wood Lathe on its cabinet that rolls, Table Saw that folds up, Chop (Miter) Saw, Trash can and my Little Red Tool Box. Ha.

The main thing here is the flat board under the shelf with the Band saw on it. It's a "folding, Rolling bench" for wood working tools to be set on while playing with wood. The caster all lock.

    Attachment 326341Attachment 326342
Here you can see the latch that holds it against the wall. Pivot it up and the table comes out.

I'm not too sure on how long the casters are going to hold up but the rest of it is solid. Folds up tight and stores back under the shelf when not in use. Also when I pull my two cars back in the garage the doors still open and no issue on getting in and out. I'm running out of space as you can see but its all working so far. Sorry for going on so log but a few guys wanted to see what I came up with when I did so there you go!
Jerry-I would just about pay you to come organize my shop!

You can see you put a lot of thought into it. Even if it is not fancy wood you do very clean work!

    Very nice job Gasman!

After getting the Wife all set up in our room and cleaning the house for her as she is not getting around very well right now. I went out in the garage and puttered around with the lathe and made these items. Took most of the day as I'm not the speediest wood turner but I had fun. I think the Weather is going to go bad starting tomorrow so maybe it will be a honing type of day tomorrow.

This morning I dug out a razor that had a cracked back scale at the pivot. I had bought it from a member here from across the pond but it was a good price and a different name so I kept it. I tried to CA the crack and broke out a chip. Then tried to CA the chip back in. After some sanding it just looked like a big mess. I went to my box of scale pieces and found one that was almost identical. So with a little fine shaping, sanding and buffing I was able to make a match.
Cleaned up the front scale and repinned the razor. I have no idea on what the inlay is on the front but it has a few dark specks in the white so I dont think its just white plastic. But I've been wrong before.
Sorry about not having any shots of the before but it was just a crack when I started this repare.

Best I can find is it was made in the mid to late 1800's.

It has an odd grind. One side is ground to have a cut in at the heal area where the other side of the blade is flat. But, the flat side is ground at an angle so it is not a microtome as far as I know. The bevel is wavy and I need to see if something can be done to correct that or if its just the way the grind made it.

Isn't that the way a Kamisori is ground and honed?

I wonder if it was a microtome that someone decided should no longer be a microtome? Beauty job on those scales.
Geezer, RezDog, tintin and 1 others like this.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Nope. Although they are single bevel, wakamisori are hollow on both sides.

Nice work, Jerry-I've been branching out to different types of pens myself, and keep meaning to turn some tops from my cut-offs. There are a few young-un's around the neighborhood that might appreciate them. I hope your wife gets better soon.

    Nice razor, too.

All of this turning has me intrigued. My combo lathe is in the shed. No time for it now. Maybe when I come home from work in December. In the mean time I hope you two stay busy and keep me lathe inspired.
Jerry, I hope you wife is healing well.
