Tend to agree, should hone out, certainly worth the efforts. Could be a really nice shaver.
And Shaun, loved the patina on that blade you posted a page or so back.
Was that done with the jax? Just gorgeous man.

Rog. The pitting being only on one side can be a good thing. If it's very deep you can hone it with an asymmetric bevel in order to hit good steel without loosing much width. Hard to say if it would be appropriate for this blade from looking at the pics, but it's an option to keep in mind. Send me a PM if you need some help getting her shaving.

I have Norton water stones (still learning). 220/1000 and 4000/8000, no finishers. I was hoping to
develop my skills and take care of this one myself. It passes the HHT as it is now. My thoughts are
to learn how to use my 5/8 round point and then move up to larger SRs.

To be honest I do not remember if that was with Jax or bluing. I have done a few with both products. The only difference is the Jax is always grey to black with very few blue tones.

It is likely a good candidate for a bench mark razor. One that sees little use and you pull it out on occasion just to see where you are at in your honing skills. I agree that learning with what you have and then exploring is a good idea. I was just tossing you some options.

I've come to the mind that this needs to be addressed now. I don't think it will wait for my learning curve.
An ice storm is rolling in tonight, so I don't know if I want to chance going to the post office in the morning.

If you wanted it to take the longest possible time in transit, you could mail it to me. :-) I live in an area that quite literally has the slowest mail service in Canada. If the roads are sketchy and you don't know if they are safe, then chances are unless it is an emergency you should stay off of them.

The ice is coming this way, too. I need to make it to the post office tomorrow morning to send out a care package. I'm going to hunker down this weekend and do some honing, maybe some hand sanding.

I don't think we're due for ice where I'm at but, I too need to hunker down for some honing this weekend. I've got resto projects on hold until I have edges on the ones that need it. There a queue for the hones that's been moving slower than the line at the DMV.

Don't go to the DMV at the end of the month....

Just cold here for the next few days. I have been invited fishing with my son and his friend in their "new" ice fish shack. I should tell his freind to bring along the razor he has wondered about honing.

Good heater in the shack and they are using my generator.

Should be no problem for temp with my water hones.......
