Well I won't waste precious website space by re-posting the picture of the tire re-installed and everything checked out with the bike ready to roll but it's all done and ready.
The bike shop's charge for mounting and balancing was $35 plus the sales tax and I thought that was reasonable/especially since my life depends on that tire and the installation. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I am glad that I was not riding my bike this evening. It looked like it might rain and as I rolled down the hill into Bay City WI about 21:30 I thought that it started a little early. Then I realized it was the Mayflies! I stopped at the gas station and the guy said they hit hard about 23:30 last night.
Then after I left the river area I only had to brake hard and swerve for 1 deer.Last edited by 32t; 06-11-2017 at 04:09 AM.

Wow guys finally got caught up in this department I have not been in here for a couple of days, you all are getting some great work turned out.
Jerry the last one I did I tried the satin finish again and what I did was all of my sanding up to 3k like I normally do, then went back to I think 1k maybe 800 it has been a bit since. Sanding from spine to edge worked for me with a wine cork and some water then finally dry. If I was home I would share picks, I think it was on my Tally HO that I did that on. Keep it up gentsNothing is fool proof, to a sufficiently talented fool...

Thanked: 3215“I Dont have any scotchbrite for my drimmel. Guess i can see about finding some. Anyone else? BTW, thanks Mike.”
No, you will never get a uniform finish from a Dremel, you cannot hold the drum at the same angle and pressure to get a uniform finish.
Do it by hand with a backer, take the finish to at least 1k first, with no blemishes.
The trick is to use new paper 600 grit with a backer, I use a synthetic wine cork (has flat ends), wrapped a 3x3 in piece of 6mm craft foam and wrap a 3X3 piece of good, new 600 grit paper around the foam, go in one direction with over lapping strokes.
I lay the razor on a piece of 6mm craft foam to keep it from moving and scratching, and to elevate it from the work surface.
If you muff it, take it back to 1k and start over. Experiment with WD40, Windex, Simple Green or dry, for the finish you want, each will leave a little different finish.
Here is an interesting video of Nick Wheeler doing a Satin Finish on a knife. While finishing a razor and knife is different, he has packed this video series with tons of great tips on hand sanding.
Notice how much effort he puts into selecting a backer, making different backers for finishing different parts of his knives. The backer matters, as does the paper and pressure.
A good Satin finish is harder than a bright, mirror. Get one stria crooked or wavy and the whole thing looks, wrong.

Great info thanks for the link too. I waz looking at that craft foam just the other day at the store and was thinking, i know theres a reason to buy it but why? Now i know. I had read folks using it but just couldnt remember how or why. I put it on ky list of stuff to buy. Ill get a chance tonight to watch the vid as i will make it home this eve. But my weekend isnt here yet.
Thanks for the instruction. Ill give a lot of tries on different ways. No blemishes is not an option though. Im trying to hide rust pits. Hoping i can get the scratch marks into the pits as much as possible. I know it isnt going to be as nice. I might find the polished look to be better for hiding pits but its all a learning process. It's just Sharpening, right?
