Thanked: 2284Getting closer... My back is killing me. Pulled something in my back friday cutting the armour stone with the quick saw. Dang stuff is hard. Mrs. HW gave me a rub down with Voltaren gel. Now that stuff is quite amazing.
Ran out of heat refractory bricks and refractory cement. I blame the guy at the hardware store for that, but I'm sure it's probably my measuring and math....

Sorry to hear about your back, Andrew-Pour out a few fingers of Laphroiag as a pain killer. I'd like to baptize that fireplace with a couple racks of ribs lol.

+1 on the Voltaren gel, that stuff is gold. Nice looking progress on the fireplace, it looks like it requires a working back to complete! Hope you feel better, sore back ain't no fun.

Thanked: 2284Aaron, Tuzi, Dave, it was weird. I got real tired on my last cut with the saw but my back held strong. Ran up the basement stares taking them 2 by 2 and felt an almost electric shock go shooting through my lower back. It was quite stiff for a while.

I once threw my back out ironing a shirt, another time toweling off after a shower. Our spinal cord is a miraculous and amazingly-strong mechanism, but sometimes unexpectedly delicate. Gotta be careful as you get older! If I get out something like the weedeater or chainsaw, I have to go in little spurts.
But again, love the fireplace!

Yeah sometimes the oddest little things set my back into spasms.
Things you do everyday or at least very often. Then all of a sudden BAM!! OUCH!!!! and many other words mumbled.
Broke my back 22 years ago, so I really have to watch certain thingsLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Thanked: 2284Found this pic online, and based it on it. I wanted it to look bad ass but at the same time be kind to myself so it wasn't too complicated to build.
Went ventless so it kicks all the heat out the front. In retrospect I'd have sloped the inside ceiling on an angle to help allow the heat to roll out. I think the opening is big enough tho, that the heat should have no problem getting out.
It's been a lot more work than I anticipated, but it's been fun.

Are you gonna BBQ in that thing, or it just to look pretty?
