Lots have this many and more, John!
Some like to experiment around with various hones. Some just like to get it done with tried and true ones. I suppose I am of the latter persuasion.

As far as me, i like the synthetic stones and do restoring of blades so the need for a dmt or 3 for fixing and lapping, stones from 1k thru 20k, then the fun of learning the natural stones. On top of that, everyone needs a barber hone or 4.

At least this is my excuse! Now dont be telling my wife (SWMBO) that i only need 2 rocks. I will never hear the end of it.

I think you have a very nice setup, Jerry. A spot for the big Escher and a few more primos is good to have.

Yup, stones are like razors in that there are many available to acquire to experiment with.
My stone box is a wooden chest, and has somewhere between how many my wife thinks I have and how many I have been lucky enough to actually get.
The synthetics are more predicatable and easy to build a progression with, but jnats and eschers and other naturals, the fun there is in the experiments.
Slurry and nagura stone impact on finish and abrasion qualities,, a month of Sunday’s and you’d still be learning, or at least I still am..

Yes Tom, a spot for a Thuri and a couple more and i think i will stop. At least i hope so. Not too sure about a big Esher. Thats going to cost as much as 4 or 5 of these rocks. Maybe a C.F. if it falls in my lap, just because. I read some nice things about those stones. Although, i can always trade up!

Yup. After you quit using 4 or 5 of these stones, it is time to pass them on.
While not as organized as you are, I dislike things I will never use at all anymore. Sold a lot of hones and still never use half the stuff I pictured.
I have taken to selling 4 or 5 razors to get one I want.

An Escher is a lovely hone, but not any better than the right stropping regimen off a 12k Naniwa, IMO.

Still, I AM a strop guy, you must remember.
It's a fine, prestigious thing. I like it because you can get lost in it and still not over-hone unless you have done so before you get to it.
