She's a long road for sure Tom.
I searched cause I knew I replied, but still took a bit o time..

Love what you are doing with that WB BTW Tom..

Got 5 japanese straights coming my way. Some will be in here as they look rough.
But excited to have a few to work on. Bought a new nagura at the 1-3k range to try bevel setting with my jnat as well.

Ya know, using a slow-running drill-press and concocting a miniature parser-bit might be pretty effective if the scale could be mounted to a piece of wood and moved around as-necessary?
The template could also be positioned and mounted to the same piece of wood over the scale.

This tool, and the inlay template laid across the scale of the desired shape will do inlays. Seems to be what it was designed for.
I think the outer shape (template) is or was the key.
B52, I think that was the one I was trying to find originally. I then came across a thread about How To Do Chip Inlays. I went there & got sidetracked which is where I found the website I sent MikeT & after looking through it for awhile my eyelids were getting heavier.................it was after midnight then. On occasion I'm a night owl but last night I was tired because I was up early yesterday morning when my dog wanted out.

Don't know Tom, maybe. I have tried similar & the tool or bit will catch whatever your cutting & move it. If ya have one of those vises that moves both ways it would work. If you do it MikeT, test it out on another piece of wood first.

The guys back in the day did it beautifully with a pretty rudimentary device, so I figure very slow and easy is key. Perhaps just a guide bar for the edge of the wood and hand pressure would keep all steady.

I'd just like you all to know, that this thread is giving me nightmares, in my sleep, all I see over and over again is, "Butchered WB FBU" and I wake up screaming....and run downstairs to make sure there isn't steel fillings pouring from my razor chest and pooling on the floor like a terrible crime scene.....

Had I thought it through, should have just called it The beater blade support thread.
Who thinks ahead though and no editing the title after it starts.
That would be a horrible, horrible dream though..That's a lot of molten steel there..

Phrank, you are one who has most likely the most & beautiful Wade & Butcher's out there which is actually the maker that started this thread.
If William & Samuel Butcher (actually James Buthcer) knew this would happen, no telling what they would have used as a slogan..................."the straight razor that lasts centuries"!!!
