Thanked: 953Agreed.
1. the venting is healthy and will run its course naturally
2. the information is helpful. I didn't know why people were disappearing from B&B, and if this had been here before (maybe it was) I would have wised up more quickly to the practices over there.
3. the behavior over there isn't just hostile - it's bad business practice, and people need to know they shouldn't take the hack jobs on our custom makers there seriously (or at least view them in the context of a would-be competitor targeting what he views as his business rivals)

Being a high school band director, I would not even consider such behavior at my band camps. Some folks would be doing push ups for life.! I'm still not banned over on B&B but I just might throw a can worms around so I could join the "Banned of Brother's Group". Cool name.
Not to worry Don, I won't.Last edited by Kenrup; 04-15-2008 at 03:19 PM.

Thanked: 2I will probably get roasted for this, but oh well.
did anyone actually read the threads that led to the bannings?
The RW review that led to papabull being banned started when Joel said RW razor was not worth the price he was charging. the jist i got was it was a good shaver just priced to high for what you got. then RW defended himself (rightfully so), which led to the s**t storm that got him banned.
The thread: is a str8 better than a de... the whole problem i have with what is being said here is Joel did not tell the guy to use a de not a str8. He basically said if you cant get the blade angle to work on a de you are going to have trouble with a str8.
and my thoughts on the custom razor thread over there. I feel that that thread was started with the intention of being a pot stirrer, just to ruffle feathers, to see someone get angry.
I admit the mood has changed over there in the last couple months or so, but i kind of thought it was just me losing interest. Then i thought maybe it was the surge in membership, maybe there was just a bunch of new people that wanted to blab about everything but shaving. Now i dont know what it is.
I know I have never had any dealing with Joel, but i can understand getting po'd when someone changes what you say, or a product is not what you expect.
Robert Williams from my dealing with him, he is a stand up guy. He sent me a str8 for the price of shipping, and i am grateful to him.
It is a shame the two of them couldn't work out a peaceful resolution, it is also a shame people keep stirring up old stuff, just to see some s**t fly,or to get banned.
Just my $.02
Thanks for letting me look around

Yes. Joel was a jerk. Someone had asked very benignly who were good custom makers. Joel said he wouldn't use anyone other than Ellis or Zowada, the others have QC issues, then someone said what about RW, and Joel launched into a hack job, and then RW very very even-keeled pointed out that Joel had tried to hire him and flipped when he said no, and then Joel made the famous juvenile post just calling RW a stone cold liar and poor artisan. It was embarrassing to read it was so juvenile, and none of it was necessary.

If you weren't following the thread live, you missed a lot, because the mods kept deleting things. That thread got weird, but it was one of many where Joel summarily decidied someone wasn't up to str8 shaving and told them to give it up, which is really a shame since the guy clearly wanted to learn and Joel's argument for why he should give it up didn't resonate with me or others at all. But then when others disagreed, Joel again launched and got very nasty for no reason, telling Mike he shouldn't be posting if that's his view, which is just assinine. The idea that you can't post if you don't agree with Joel is wrong, and that is essentially what he was saying. And in one case, someone pointed that out in a post and it was removed immediately.

The issue for me is that he appears to be using his bully pulpit in the guise of a dissatisfed consumer to trash someone that didn't do what he wanted in terms of a commercial deal, and that's misleading to people reading it that don't know the background. And some people believe anything Joel says so he has a responsbility to not emote (in my view). And beyond that, why be so nasty and say RW is crap when everyone knows better than that.

Correct. So why was he trashed? Think about it.Last edited by loueedacat; 04-15-2008 at 03:41 PM.

Thanked: 953I agree with everything here, and I was following it live too. It really was nothing short of a hissy fit by Joel [and I have a 2 and 4 year old, so I know hissy fits]. RW was a total gentleman. Mike Ratliff was totally reasonable. Joel threw a tantrum when no one agreed with him, took his ball and went home. It was like seventh grade.

Thanked: 3The character of these two men taking this stand are good reasons to spend time at srp, not to hang out with little boys who decide to throw rocks at other windows and leave poop on their doorstep. Some of you are claiming to be a gentleman as you defiantly stand with pebbles in your angry little hands - the claim of being a gentleman doesn't make you one, by the way. It might be a good idea for you take off your crusade capes now and move on. Some of you are looking more petty than your intended target.
Gentlemen? Prove it.
